Character Name: Gelsey Reinhardt
Nickname: None
Age: 16
Birthday: May 5th
Place of birth: Riverside, California
School: Gould
Grade: Junior
Appearance: Gelsey is a tiny girl, only 5'2". She has very pale skin with a slightly yellow tint, and large brown eyes that she accentuates with copious amounts of eye make up. Her hair is long and bleached to white before dyed a very light grey, with darker blue-grey streaks through the front. After her ghostly pallor, the most noticable thing about her is her nose ring, which she'll never remove as obtaining it was a hard won fight against her mother.
She wears lots of black, occasionally accented with a bit of white lace, which brings greater attention to her pale coloring. She's not too fancy with her clothing choices: Lots of tank tops, black jeans, crop tops, some low cut tops that show off her lack of cleavage.
Personality: Gelsey is a laid-back kind of girl. She's got rather low expectations in general, and thus finds it easy to shrug off situations and behaviors that would irritate most anyone else. She's definitely not uptight, but nor is she hyper. She's very even-keeled, the sort of girl who will accept most any revelation in a very matter of fact manner, and even if a statement is clearly a joke she'll usually respond as though it were true. People sometimes think she just doesn't get their jokes because of this, even though she usually does.
She usually mentally processes everything before verbally responding, however, as in the past she's agreed with statements that were obviously ridiculous only to realize this after she'd already spoken.
Of course, being so mellow isn't exactly a good thing. Sometimes she has difficulty understanding why she ought to care about what she considers the petty concerns of other people. Now, she tries to encourage them and to be positive, but she's found herself in the role of confidant before simply because she won't turn people away and not because she actually is emotionally invested in the other person's problems.
Also, she doesn't react well when negative emotions are directed at her. She's most likely to stare blankly and not react at all, hoping that the person lecturing her will get tired and go away, or forget about it. She's certainly not going to attempt to engage them in conversation, or approach them later when they're calmed down to try and work things out. She'll pretend that there was never any problem, because that's just the easiest way to deal with disagreements. She's not the type to argue, either, so if someone requests that she do something she isn't interested in, she's not going to object or announce her intentions to disobey, she simply will acknowledge the request and then proceed to do whatever she was going to do in the first place.
Still, she's a generally happy and optimistic girl, she's just not energetically cheerful. It's difficult to get her down; on the rare occasion she does get angry or upset she's quick to recover her equilibrium. She's easy to please and easy to get along with....unless you happen to really want a strong emotional reaction out of her, in which case you will most likely be disappointed.
While outbursts on Gelsey's part are rare, one definitely had better not truly anger her, as she'll bide her time and find some way to get even. She's usually quite dispassionate about her vengeance, considering it simple justice rather than passionate revenge. And as she observes other people more than she engages them in conversation, she tends to know the best way to emotionally cripple people. She most often chooses not to, as she happens to like people in general, but also because life is easier when she gets along with other people.
She's highly organized with those things he cares about, but allows anything she isn't interested in to lapse into chaos. Similarly, she can focus on the minutiae of linguistics for days on end, but can hardly stay awake for other topics. In general she is very lazy and difficult to motivate unless the topic in question is something artistic.
She's not the kind of person to worry much about things she deems outside of her control, which probably contributes to her blase attitude towards almost everything. Sometimes she shrugs off things that she really could do something about but she doesn't want to exert the effort necessary, so she tells herself she couldn't do anything about it anyway. She's not going to attach herself to any particular ideology, instead choosing to go with whatever happens to be in her self-determined best interest at the moment. And she doesn't generally correct other people's assumptions about her, nor will she usually argue with positions she disagrees with, so different people may have different ideas about what she really believes.
In fact, she's not always comfortable giving a straight opinion even on minor issues, like "what should we have for dinner." She'll say she doesn't care, and she usually doesn't, but if she DOES care she still won't say, she'll just give less than encouraging responses to all suggestions until her choice is hit upon, at which point she will shrug and say that everything is acceptable.
She's slightly above apathy, in that she'll insist that all choices are wonderful and she'll be more than satisfied with anything. As long as she has no real preference she'll smile at your choice and tell you it's her favorite. It's not a lie, either, everything is her favorite at the moment she's contemplating it. This may seem like an inability to make decisions, but really that's not the problem: the problem is sharing her decision with other people, particularly a decision that affects a group.
She hates team work, because she feels it is necessary to value everyone's opinion or the team will fail, and she doesn't want to step on any toes, so she'll defer all decision making when forced into a committee. If she's flying solo she's comfortable making even controversial decisions; just don't expect her to announce them to the world or admit that she actually has an opinion on how things should be run. She'll just do it, preferably when nobody is watching so that by the time people notice it's too late.
Town Area: Santa Monica
Job: None
Transportation: Her mother
Family Background and History: Mother: Jutta Reinhardt, age 40 A former dancer for The California Riverside Ballet (1986-1996). She stopped dancing professionally when she became pregnant with Gelsey, and now teaches dance classes.
Father: Peter Reinhardt, age 45. He worked at EmSense Corp. a game design consulting firm up until last September.
Grandmother: Karla Reinhardt. Peter's mother moved in with Gelsey's family after her husband passed away.
Gelsey has the ultimate stage mom. Not only was her mother a professional ballerina, she named her daughter ballet celebrity Gelsey Kirkland; Jutta has pushed her only child to pursue ballet since the moment the girl could walk. Gelsey likes Ballet well enough to be disappointed that she's had to drop out this semester, but not enough that she wants to perform for a career.
She took up Cello in Middle School, and it was in Orchestra her Freshman year of High School that she befriended Sidra Cotton. Sidra introduced her to the wonderful world of Goth, and Gelsey was immediately intrigued. Of course, she favors Zombies over either Lycans or Vampires, but she'll side with the vampires for the moment as they're her fellow undead.
Her family lived in Riverside until she was in 7th grade, at which point they moved into a slightly larger home in Santa Monica, where the Reinhardts are still residing. Last year her grandfather passed away, and her grandmother moved in with them, which is a pain as Grandmother Reinhardt disapproves heartily of the goth subculture. Even more unhappily, her father recently lost his job, and the family is struggling to figure out how to pay the mortgage on their house.
Class Schedule: 1st: Calculus
2nd: Typing
3rd: Health
4th: Orchestra
5th: Hon. American History
6th: American Lit.
Attendance Length: 4 years
After School Activities: She used to take ballet, but due to financial difficulties she's had to drop out.
Likes: make up, ballet, stringed instruments, cello, zombies, ribbons and lace, roses, black and white photographs, manicures, cute shoes. She's a very girly goth.
Dislikes: Gelsey is rather reluctant to disclose her dislikes, so it's difficult or most people to really know what she hates. Her most obvious dislike is for making decisions, as she'll go along with just about anything. She also dislikes having to put forth much effort in any of her activities, or at least she dislikes her effort being obvious.
Other Information: Dry is on a character kick again. -_-
Face Claim: Miryam Sater
Player: Dryope
Writing Sample: Gelsey glided over to Sidra, flopping down beside the other girl with a smile. "How's the war going?" She inquired, referring to the ongoing game with Hunter. She didn't really mind one way or the other, but it was kind of fun to tease the hirsute boy, and besides, if the Weres took down all the dead then that meant zombies, too. That was her external reasoning, though in reality she only went along because Sidra wanted to.
She swung her legs idly, ankles crossed; two pale china dolls side by side, one pink and one grey. "He's not giving in, is he." She sighed, "Stubborn. He'll learn, though." She assured the other girl, as though Sidra had any doubts that their side would win. Sidra was always so determined when she set her mind to something, much more driven than Gelsey had ever been. Gelsey admired her friend that ability to care so passionately, but it was difficult to invest herself in anything enough to gain the same passion.
She dug a pack of sugarfree gum out of her pockets, wriggling free a piece before handing the box to Si. "Like a piece?" She offered, unwrapping her own with her other hand.
