Christophe handed the phone across to Silver, unable to miss the way in which she blushed furiously when their fingers touched. It was cute to see a reaction like that and he smiled down at her as she stammered her thanks. "Mon plaisir," he replied. Emma, to, seemed nervous and he had to wonder if he came over as a frightening boy. He hoped not but then he couldn't see himself as others did. Perhaps it was his greater height? Or the fact that he was new to school... Or foreign. That might be it. Hopefully they would both soon see he was harmless and also friendly. "I also like to read," he said to them both. "Victor Hugo is one of my favourite writes but I also like Sartres. In fact, I will read almost anything I find... That doesn't mean I would like it,l though," he added with a short laugh. "Other than reading I like to sail. I am from Paris but lived in Canada... near Vancouver... for a couple of years. Virtually all of my spare time was spent out on the water. My mother says I have salt water in my veins instead of blood. And I have Renard to keep me busy. He is my husky pup. I am still very new to the area and so am looking to make friends and explore the coast. I hope to find someone with similar interests who would be happy to act as my personal guide. Christophe looked from Emma to Silver. "I don't suppose either of you like to sail... do you?" It was always worth asking and he might just get the response he'd been looking for.

The girl introduced herself. She seemed like she was determined to start up a conversation which Emma thought was really nice of her, because usually Emma would have run away by now. An awkward exit for an awkward person. That's how it usually went. "I'm Emma," she said, deciding against giving the full explanation of her name...how it was Emily Anne but her mom had taken the 'Em' from Emily and the 'A' from Anne and put it together to call her Emma, only adding the extra 'M' so it would be spelled normally. And the fact that her father sometimes called her Emily Anne behind her back so random people she never met would call her by her wrong name. It wasn't something that Emma really explained to anyone unless they already knew her full name. Otherwise she was always just Emma. She preferred it that way. "Oh--I spend most lunches in the library too," Emma blurted, excited about the shared interest, "I don't think I've seen you there though...we must sit on opposite sides of the stacks...I usually avoid the chairs by the door," she said and then the boy started talking about reading and he was talking about where he was from and Silver blushed when she took her cell phone from him and suddenly Emma found herself blushing. They liked each other! And here she was in the middle, completely unwanted--or so she thought. She felt stupid and out of place...like she shouldn't have stepped out from her invisibility. Stupid, stupid Emma! Well, she'd have to fix it. "Um...uh...I gotta go," she said quickly, turning around and walking away. An awkward exit for an awkward person. And to make it worse she tripped over her own feet as she walked, but luckily she was able to catch herself before falling on the ground. She quickened her pace and felt her face turning even more bright red. How embarrassing. Right...this was why Emma spent her time in the library instead of talking to other people. Wrapped for Emma (unless they'd call her back for some reason but if not don't worry about it )

Silver perked up at certain conversations. RPG and books. Her two favorite things to talk about in life. So when Christophe and Emma discussed reading, for that moment the social awkwardness seemed to disappear. "Victor Hugo....oh I love his poerty. Les Rayons et les ombre is by far the best he ever wrote. Of course I have also read Les Miserables and Notre-dame de Paris. I could read those over and over." Silver said enthusiastically. "Have you ever read anything by Tolstoy, or Emily Bronte?" Those were some of her favorite authors.
Silver turned to look at Emma, "I tend to sit by the doors, so I can avoid who comes into the library." Silver realized that sounded weird. "I mean so I know who comes into the library, so umm....yeah..." Silver left it alone. She had been on a role and now she was back to being awkward. So Silver tried to turn to conversation back to reading. Hoefully it would work, "I like to read a lot too. But I actually rather enjoy research. I like to research just random things, or people. Keeps me busy, when I don't role play on the weekends." Silver not afraid to admit her interests, but she still hated to be grilled about it. She hoped they did not grill her.
When Emma turned to leave Silver felt as if she turned her away. She felt like perhaps she was doing most of the talking, or maybe Emma did not care to watch Silver talk to her boyfriend. That's what Silver thought Christophe might be. "You don't have to leave Emma. Please....umm stay....I didn't mean to make you leave." She said with a small smile.
"Sailing....I love it. I am from Alaska. Sailing was the main transportation besides cars. Although I don't know how to sail myself, but I am use to being on a sail boat. I love boats." It was true. She use to go out with people in Alaska all the time. Her older brothers would drag her along, but she had not been on a boat in ages. "I would love to go if you don't mind and if your girlfriend doesn't mind." Silver said motioning toward Silver when she mentioned girlfriend.

Christophe was taken by susprise at how quickly Emma started to leave... and even more so when she came close to tripping over in her haste. He looked back down at Silver who was watching Emma and his confusion started to build when Silver called her back... "My... what? Qu'était-ce vous a-t-il dit? My girlfriend?" Christophe's eyes widened a little. "Mais non. I have only just met her. You both, in fact." He glanced at Emma in bemusement. "We must look like we are together, non?" He grinned to try and ease the awkwardness that had slid over the trio.
"Perhaps we could take a boat out one day, Silver. I would love to be able to do that as I miss the water. Maybe you would be able to come with us, Emma... The more people on board a boat the better it is and I promise I am fully trained in handling such vessels." He rubbed his hands together, excited at the prospect of heading back out to sea... and with two pretty girls as company! He'd be the envy of the entire school for sure. Not too bad for his second only day at school. "We could make a day of it... A picnic. Go swimming." The idea was growing in content as well as appeal. "Please say you will both at least consider it...." He adopted his best 'pup in full begging mode' look but if it helped then he was all for using whatever tactics needed.

Oh...why did they want her around? Emma didn't get it. Clearly they were really into each other. What did they want with her as their third wheel. Emma felt so stupid as she turned back. And then that was it...Silver thought Emma was this guy's girlfriend. He seemed to laugh at the fact and Emma's cheeks turned pink. "Um...yeah...we're not..." Emma said quietly trailing off. She would have preferred to say nothing but she didn't want Silver to think that she liked the guy. Mostly because Emma though Silver liked him. Certainly this Silver girl was now relieved. Well, good for them, Emma thought. She'd just stand there quietly and wait for them to leave her unnoticed. Clearly she'd made too much of a spectacle of herself to leave on her own now. Why did she always do that?
And then they started talking about sailing. It was another thing that they had in common. That they wanted to do together. So why were they inviting her. "Oh...I've...I've never gone sailing before," Emma said. "I'm from Arizona...there isn't much water there...." Okay that wasn't entirely true. Emma was from LA, but she'd lived in Arizona for the past few years and was only now back in LA. She felt more like she was from Arizona though. She felt like it suited her better then LA did. Emma hadn't really wanted to go back to LA, but it had happened and she'd been here more than a month now and was still dealing with it all.
"Uh...I'm not sure...I'm well...kinda...clumsy," she said, which was something she hated to admit. She couldn't imagine being able to stand at all on a rocking boat. With her luck she'd fall right off and while Emma knew how to swim, she wasn't the strongest swimmer so she figured it was a bad situation all around. Plus, Silver and Christophe were clearly into each other and were only inviting Emma to be polite. Or at least that's what Emma thought. Emma had never really been good at that whole self-esteem thing.

Oh god, she got it wrong. They were not..h god, now Silver was really embarrassed. She started to say random facts in her head. Something about it calmed her down, cause now she was really embarrassed, "I'm so..sorry. I mean you were both standing side by side, when I dropped my books, and it seemed like, so i just assumed, which is really bad of my cause that usually means you make an arse out of yourself for assuming, so I try not to assume, but I did and oh my I am sorry." She said her words coming out a mile a minute. it would be a miracle if they even understood all that. She had to take a deep breath after that.
"Sorry I ramble when I get nervous and I um..." she shrugged not sure of what she was really trying to say, "I um would love to um go on the boat with you..um..it sounds fun." She told Christophe. "i don't know about the swimming exactly. I kind of can't swim. Ironic right..and weird I am sure." She told them both feeling like she was a dork for not knowing how to swim. But she never learned. Her problem was knowing random facts meant she knew the odds of drowning and being attacked in the water and that was not ideal for swimming.

"Arizona?" Christophe scoured his brain for stored information about the state, coming up empty. "I have never been there and my knowledge of US states is terrible. But no water?" He shook his head and smiled down at Emma. "You have missed out on a lot of fun and I would be happy to rectify that. I'm sure you aren't as clumsy as you think and besides, I would make sure nothing happened to you. I swear," he emphasised.
He turned to face Silver, smile still in place as she tried to explain why she'd misunderstood his and Emma's relationship. "Please... It's fine," he said. "No harm was done but as for not being able to swim... I wouldn't take either of you out without life jackets and so you wouold be fine. Maybe one day I could even try and teach you to swim. I mean, living so close to the ocean, it seems a crime not to be able to enjoy what it has to offer. Have either of you a boyfriend? If so they would be very welcome to come as well. I will be hiring a large enough boat so that we could easily take a good six or more people and it would be good for me to meet others, being so new to here." He grinned at them in turn. "See? I have a motive for asking you out as I really hope to make more friends... and as soon as I possibly can." Christophe was nothing if not impatient to achieve that goal as he hated the prospect of spending the weekend alone as it was sure to be just the first of many.

It seemed that they were not going to let her out of this. She supposed she could just not show up but that would be rude and if she agreed to go, well, she'd have to actually go. Emma had always been one to honor her commitments. "You have no idea," she murmured when he said that she couldn't be that clumsy. Emma tended to injure herself a lot. She'd hit her head, sprained ankles and wrists, broken bones, all most times that she could count. And that wasn't even included the millions of times she'd tripped and fell or knocked into someone, causing them to fall. Graceful wasn't a word that people usually attached to Emma. A reason she always wore flats despite being short.
Silver seemed excited about the boat. Why couldn't she just go? She knew that they were trying to be nice but didn't they get that Emma didn't want to go. She did want friends though. And as Christophe explained his reasoning for wanting to hang out with them both, she couldn't really blame him. Emma did get lonely a lot....especially on the weekends. And she knew how excited her father would be if she actually had plans for once instead of spending the weekend curled up in her room with some books. He always told her how he worried that she wasn't being social enough, but then again, she was very much her father's daughter in that he wasn't very social with people either. But he still had friends...then again, he'd been living here his whole life. It was natural that he'd have some friends.
"No...I don't really have anyone..." Emma said quietly, referring to the fact that she had neither a boyfriend or any friends to invite. She was sure that even these two would realize how pathetic she was and drop her the moment they found some others. But even so...it might be fun to have some friends for a little while...

Silver was glad Emma was coming too. She could use the company. "Oh I don't...I mean..." She blushed a deep crimson. God, she needed help. Badly. "I don't have a boyfriend. I um..." Silver just shrugged, "I um have a best friend named Andersen. I would like to invite him...if that....thats okay." Silver said. Although hadn't Christophe just said that. Yes he said she could invite someone. God, now she sounded like an idiot. Wonderful. "Thanks. I am...glad you would like to ...make friends..i could use friends too..and you will like Andersen...he is so nice."
Silver looked at Emma for a moment. A small smile saying thanks for joining them or else she would be a rambling idiot at the moment. She would just embarrass herself in front of the guy, "You would help me swim...you know how..." Another stupid question. She was filled with them. "That did not come out right...sorry." She sighed for a moment.
"I moved her from Alaska. Many people forget its even a state cause it is not directly attached to the US." She told them. Although odds are Emma already knew that. She looked smart. Pretty and smart. She was lucky. Very lucky. Silver wished she could be pretty and smart, but she would settle for dorky and awkward.

"Fantastique!" enthused the French boy. "And of course bring your friend Andersen. I would love to meet him. As for coming alone, Emma... don't worry," he reassured her. "I will also be alone although I might see if Llyria would like to come as well. You might know her. She has two brothers... One has an odd name. No, actually both of them do. Jan... ah... Jandario? Non... Jandro! That's it. Her other brother has been blinded. I will ask her if she would like to go out sailing as well. We will have great fun together and I will bring the picnic. You have a phone, Emma? If so I can put my number in it so that we can stay in contact."
Christophe smiled down at SIlver. "I know you have one so... would you like my number?" The trio quickly exchanged contact details. "Bon! Now you can't possibly change your minds or I will send you a barrage of text messages until you arrive," he stated with a winbk at them both. Now all he needed to do was to persuade Llyria to come. Hopefully that wouldn't be too hard a task!
He turned to leave. "Thank you Silver and Emma," he said. "For making my start here so... friendly." He nodded once to each girl and then headed off. A good start to the day and Christophe mentally crossed his fingers in the hope the rest of the day would continue along similar lines.
(wrapped I think for Christophe)
