"So I hear you got into a duel at lunch yesterday." Russell nudged Wynn with a grin. He was still flying high from Lucas' invitation; if he could have just fast-forwarded through class he would have.
"Dude, I wish I'd been there, that would've been so epic!" He sighed regretfully at having missed something so interesting. Of course nothing interesting happened until he skipped; he'd even missed the food fight! Then again, he'd been quite fortunate to have missed the excitement of the shooting simply because he'd been making out with Lucas in seclusion. So he supposed he couldn't complain too much about missing things.
He yanked open his locker, tumbling all his belongings carelessly into the bottom as he chatted, "But seriously, is it true she rejected you? I thought she liked you." He shook his head in despair, "Relationships are lame. It'd be easier if you could just be like....Oh, that person would be good with me. We have tons in common and are all, like, compatible from a logical standpoint."
His books slid off their precarious piles as he talked, spilling out onto the floor; he attempted to shove them back into the locker with his foot. "If I was gonna date based on who would be nice to me and a good partner I'd date....I'd daaaaaaaaate...." He paused, trying to think of someone who wouldn't throw him into his locker for daring to suggest they might date. "Ummmmmm. Probably Mom. Forget about physical attraction." He laughed, "Well, she should have guys lined up to ask her out, she's the nicest person in the whole school."

"I wasn't IN a duel," Wynn sighed as he thumped his head against the locker behind him. "The guy slapped my face like Bugs Bunny and then tried to be all Jack Sparrow and swashbuckler." He rolled his eyes. "I had no idea what he was going on about so I just played along."
The comedic timing of the items falling out of the locker, made Wynn snicker slightly. "She didn't reject me, per se, she just didn't pick me this time, that's all." Which was partially true, he and Julia didn't have a relationship other than being friends. "Relationships are not lame, its what makes high school what it is." Agnst ridden, desperate etc. "Ummm Julia and I do have a lot in common. I'm not giving up though, I lost one girl and I won't let it happen again!" Someone was living in a world where bluebirds and mice greet you every morning and help you through the day.
Wynn gave a puzzled look to Russell. "Mom? Really? I never gave it a thought before with her. Guess I just knew her for a long time now. One of the first people I met when I started grade school, she's become more a friend over anything."

Genny had decided she needed to be more proactive. She had barely spoken to anyone since the date with Will. Even Gage seemed too busy to talk anymore. Seeing Wynn in the halls at least gave her a topic which was always a plus.
She walked up to the two boys and smiled shyly. "Hey Wynn... I heard there is a lot going on this weekend. Is the gaming group still going to meet?" she asked hopefully. She wasn't one of the ones that was there every single week, but she liked to play a lot. Between her studies and her Aquarium cleaning business she couldn't find the time every time.
Genny didn't know Russell very well as he was a year older and she was too shy to move out of the small circle of people she felt comfortable with. She thought he was cute in a way that meant he was unlikely to ever notice a nerd like her. "I was thinking I might bring some pizza rolls if food is allowed."

"Ugh, okay, fine, relationships are real, real nice to have. And also real annoying to get sorted out the way you want." Russell glowered as he slammed his locker shut. He was greatly dissatisfied with his own relationship, because he thought that Lucas should have no trouble at all admitting they were together. He only forgot this when he was actually with Lucas, and that was because he was usually too busy to remember to bring it up. "I'll put in a good word for you, then, if she likes you it shouldn't be hard."
He flung his bag over his shoulder again, "I didn't say I did want to date Mom, I said I should want to date her. She doesn't have the right parts, but she's nice. If aliens turn her into a boy I'd ask her out. And she wouldn't hold with any pretending not to date her sort of thing, so that's a bonus. At least, I don't think she would. Or maybe she would and I don't know! You think she's got a secret boyfriend or something? I don't think she would, do you think she would? She's straight, right? I don't think I've ever asked her, I'm the worst friend in the world, I don't even know, maybe she's gonna be a nun or something and she's not even interested, which, I mean, that's okay if she is but yeah. I don't know. I guess it's not my business, since aliens have not turned her into a boy..."
He didn't really know Genny very well, beyond the fact that she was in the same grade as Emily and friends with some of his friends. He'd never talked to her, though, as his own geek tendencies involved near worship of the 80's and children's cartoons rather than gaming, so when she arrived and began talking to Wynn about some game thing he nodded and gave a simple, "Hey. How's it goin'?"

Genny was a bit surprised when Russell acknowledged her. She was a bit confused about the dating Mom, but since she wasn't part of the conversation she tried to ignore it. "It's going pretty good, I guess," she said though it was pretty much a lie. She smiled at him however. "Do aliens turn girls into boys?" Maybe she would do better as a boy, didn't seem she could do much worse. "Anyway you guys seem kind of busy, I am sorry I interrupted. Les you can call me if you figure out about tomorrow..."
Genny's bravery had run out and she began to back away and ended up falling over someone's backpack that had been set down behind her. All went black for a moment and she lifted her hand in an attempt to cover her eyes, but she couldn't seem to find her face.

Wynn was about to welcome Genny to the conversation when Russell gave his hello as well as analogy of aliens turning girls into boys. "Of all the far fetched things I've ever heard, that takes the cake. Although that would make for a good movie." He rolled his eyes again. "I appreciate the offer but I think I can ask Mom anything if I have to."
He smiled as he turned to answer Genny. "Everything is still on for 3 pm Saturday and course food is welcomed. I'll be bringing soda. Oh and there'll be a new guy as well but he seems to know what he's doing." She was one to figure out, so quiet and shy but she enjoyed to role play and made the group when she could.
"Don't listen to him, he's just carrying on." He tried to reassure Genny as she started to walk away from them as if she were frightened by something.
He saw the bag behind her. "Genn look..." he was cut off by her falling. Wynn went over to her and knelt down beside her. "Are you all right?" She looked like she was ready to burst into tears more from humility over anything.

Genny was bright red and close to tears. So much for being proactive. She just made herself look like more of an idiot than ever. "Oh god, I am sorry,"she whispered and tried to get up but she was tangled in the bookbag and only ended up banging her knee hard on the tile floor. Her funny bone took the hit and tears began to flow despite her attempts to stem the flow.
"Damn, damn, damn," Genny chanted and rocked, holding her damaged knee. Realizing there were more people looking than just Wynn and Russell, she took a deep breath and untangled herself before rising. "Bye thanks," she squeaked out before fleeing the scene. She was terrified she would hurt someone else next time.

"So uhh what's this thing you're doing with food and soda? Is it that dragons and wizards thing or whatever? Dude, that sounds awesome, I wanna try it sometime." Russell crouched down beside Wynn, trying to give Genny a reassuring grin. It apparently backfired, however, as she took her opportunity to exit the scene.
He gaped after her, confusion clear on his face. "Ummm." He said uncertainly after a moment, "Think we should go after her?" He really wasn't sure why she had fled; surely tripping didn't justify leaving in such a hurry! He wasn't a football player, he wasn't going to laugh at her about it! And Wynn wouldn't laugh at her about it, either. Lucas might. No, he mentally took that back. Lucas would laugh at him if he tripped, but Genny was a pretty girl; he'd be nothing less than solicitous in an attempt to get her into his bed.
"Am I, like, seriously scary or something?" He asked, "And if I show up to one of your games all your friends are gonna run away in terror? Or is there a jock behind me? Oh, damn! My locker partner must be here!!" He yelped, turning to look behind him, but the pretty blonde was nowhere in sight.

"It's Dungeons and Dragons. You're more than welcome, even if you want to observe at first." Wynn had to remind the other teen. He hadn't expected Genny to take off like she did though.
He stood up, sighed and shook his head. "No, let her go. I think she just needs some time to be alone." Wynn felt sorry for her. He heard the snickers from the other witnesses around them.
"Oh yeah real scary, you see me all terrified and shaking in my shoes don't you?" Wynn teased him lightly. "The only way you could even possibly, remotely, scare them is to gain about fifty pounds, become a football player and have a lettermans' jacket." The idea that a jock would invade a D&D game would almost be considered a scandal in some circles.
"Seriously, just show up at the comic shop around three on Saturday and you can observe before you make the leap into the realms of fantasy and mystery." He rolled his eyes up slightly. "And yes you can join in with the food as well. Just remember if you decided to join up, then the next meet you need to bring something to share."

Russell whooped with glee at Wynn's offer. There wasn't a much better way to spend time than surrounded by friends and food. "Yes! I'll definitely...definitely...." He trailed off, realizing that Dungeons and Dragons would be right through his sleepover with Luc. "Uh. Go next week. You're meeting next Saturday too, right?"
At least that would give him time to think of what edible substance to bring. It couldn't be anything healthy. Maybe Emily would help him bake brownies -- but then, the two of them together were liable to eat them all before they finished. Maybe he'd just ask his mom to come up with something. That was what mothers were for, after all!
"Don't worry, I won't bring any football players with me!" He promised, "And I'm not joining the football team, so I think we're all good there." Of course, he would have gladly dragged Lucas with him, but he knew the Gould Junior would never go for that. Even had he been able to come up with an excuse to be seen at the comic shop, he would have used the opportunity to remind everyone how much he 'hated' Russell.
"You gotta help me come up with a really cool character, okay?"
