Character Name: Russell Cloy
Nickname: Russ, Rez (by Irenke)
Age: 16
Birthday: August 9th
Place of birth: Hungary
School: Silver
Grade: Sophomore
Appearance: Russell is 5'9" with brown hair that he occasionally combs across his face, and brown eyes. He's just barely in the healthy weight range, bordering on scrawny. Probably the fact that he's on the basketball team is the only thing that keeps him from looking like a stick. He's most commonly seen with a facial expression that suggests that he's happy but thoroughly confused.
He wears jeans, retro t-shirts, and very colorful hoodies along with Nike's Air Force Ones. He wears his house key around his neck, because otherwise he'll lose it and be unable to get into the house when he gets home from school -- unless, by odd chance, his siblings are home instead of off doing their various and sundry activities. He also wears multiple swatches, not so he can tell the time but because they look cool, and the silicone bracelets advertising whatever the cause of the day is.
Personality: Russ is a happy-go-lucky guy. He has no difficulties in letting loose and having fun, probably because he doesn't think about things very hard. He doesn't go in for introspection at all, which means that he isn't very self-conscious but that can also lead to bouts of extreme social stupidity on his part. He's really not that smart, and is so caught up in the present that he rarely really knows what's going on. Of course, he'll go along with it anyway; he frequently agrees to things without knowing what exactly he just agreed to, because it seemed like what was expected of him.
Quite apart from social stupidity, he's prone to regular old stupidity. Name an activity that will probably end in pain, suffering and the destruction of property (all on his own part) and he will enthusiastically volunteer to partake.
He's also very open and honest, he has a difficult time lying even in jest. This is partially due, however, to the fact that he speaks without thinking, so he sometimes unintentionally reveals information he would rather not share with everyone. He's managed to be careful about his relationship with Lucas, but whether this is because they attend different schools or because he's actually capable of keeping a secret when under scrutiny remains to be seen. At least he managed to perform okay the first time Silver stayed at Gould, though Lucas' distance towards him probably helped.
He hasn't had the difficulty in coming out that some have. Not to say that he's going to go to any Gay Pride events any time soon, but he won't deny it when asked and most of his friends know. Of course, as far as his friends know he's completely single, and he claims to absolutely abhor that Lucas Grant guy from Gould. Dumb jocks. Bah.
Town Area: Santa Monica
Job: None
Transportation: his skateboard
Family Background and History: FATHER: Jason Cloy. Financial Adviser. He's a laid-back guy with a great sense of humor. His children can come to him with any problem and he'll listen without judging.
MOTHER: Gayle Cloy. Make up artist. She's got more of a temper than her husband, but she still loves her children. She'll help them out with anything, as long as she feels they really need the help and aren't just taking advantage of her.
Siblings:
Irenke - 18 and a Senior. She's the most introverted of the family.
Thomas - 18 and also a Senior. He's on the basketball team, as well, and is the reason that Russ tried out in the first place.
Emily - 14 and a Freshman. She's also fairly outgoing, so when she and Russ get going they can be quite a terrifying pair.
Jason and Gayle Cloy were unable to have children of their own, so rather than opting for the fertility treatments so many of their peers were engaged in, they decided to adopt. The first child they adopted was close to home; Thomas' mother offered him up for adoption even before his birth. It wasn't until four years later that they adopted Irenke and Rez, two siblings from Hungary. They changed Russ's name as he was still an infant but kept Irenke's because she was old enough to be somewhat attached to it. The last child they adopted was Emily, a Chinese girl.
Russ adores his siblings. He worships both Thomas and Irenke, and is overprotective of Emily. With Irenke he's constantly asking her questions about what life was like in the orphanage in Hungary, because he doesn't remember. Of course, she was ony four at the time, so she doesn't remember very much, either, but he doesn't care, he wants stories anyway!
Class Schedule: 1st: Geometry
2nd: PE
3rd: World History
4th: World Lit
5th: Chorus
6th: Physical Science
Attendance Length: Since Freshman year
After School Activities: Basketball
Likes: synthpop and powerpop, concerts, hanging out at the mall, being goofy, cheesy action movies, all things 80's, Dune, the synthesizer his parents got him after intense begging, Lucas' poetry, throwing things, crunching pine cones, bright colors, disco balls, cartoons, swingsets, his skateboard, Guitar Hero, legos, planes, pretending he has superpowers, homemade icecream, basketball
Dislikes: That Lucas refuses to acknowledge their relationship and is a jerk to him in public, secrets, lying, being picked on, jocks/preps/other popular types (except Lucas. and sometimes even Lucas), any girl Lucas flirts with, standing still, thinking too hard, uptight people, people who hate on the 80's, those hairless cats, fixing things (like computers, cars, etc)
Other Information: It's been about four months since he met Lucas Grant, a football player from Gould. They've been secretly dating; the secret part bugs him. He says he understands, and he wants to give Lucas time to adjust, but he finds it upsetting that Lucas insists on being a jerk to him in public. Couldn't they at least be friends? But whenever he tells himself he's sick of the pretense and he's going to break things off, Lucas sneaks off to visit and he remembers why he's still with the other boy.....pure animal attraction.
Face Claim: Larzz Principato
Player: Dryope
Writing Sample: Note: this was a post for a game that's no longer active. SADLY, I kind of don't feel like writing something Russ specific, so you get Harry Potter:
Barty stood quite still, scanning the rows of books on curses. He had much more than an academic interest in these, though he was certainly not about to admit that to the general public. He had a cage filled with spiders, practicing each new curse on the eight-legged monstrosities, because muggles were too large to hide under his bed. He wasn't quite sure how he had managed to hide this pasttime from his father, although the older man's work addiction undoubtedly helped. He always stayed late, spending just enough time to kiss Tally and chastise his son for being a slacker. If only he knew, slacker was the least of young Barty's sins.
The blonde youth flipped through a particularly horrifying old book, shuddering at the picture of a wizard who had suffered the kiss of the Dementors. He was glad the ghastly things were on the Dark Lord's side; he was far from comfortable in their presence, and had no desire to fend one off, although he told himself that he certainly had the skill to do so. He'd never had any problems with his Patronus, though he had never tried to summon one in the presence of one of the Dementors, either.
After determining that the book he was looking at held no new curses to practice he slid it back onto the shelf, more careful with books than he ever felt necessary with humans. He picked up the next title on the shelf, hoping that maybe this one would contain something new and fun. He gave a quick intake of breath. Success! So someone had come up with a way to decapitate intruders, how intriguing! He would have to find a way to work that curse without it affecting either of his parents, of course. Maybe he would buy a new container to put the curse on, and then prod some spiders into it to see if the curse worked as promised. If it did, he had some uses for it -- it would be hilarious to curse a public muggle building, if he could find a way to get away with that. Or perhaps he would just pass the curse on to a bolder Death Eater, someone less concerned that their father would disapprove of their muggle-baiting activities.
He tucked the book under his arm. That would have to do for now. After all, it wasn't as though he was earning any money, and his mother was only willing to lend him so much for general expenses. Really he ought to spend the money she'd given him on new robes, not more books. He already had a veritable library in his bedroom, which was filled with so many books it was a wonder he could squeeze in anymore. And he was quite addicted, unfortunately, constantly buying new ones to devour in an hour or less. It seemed that he was enchanting his shelves to ever larger proportions weekly, a fact that had not been lost on the young Death Eater. He had briefly considered haunting the library, but then there would be records of the books he checked out, and he was well aware that much of his reading material would alert suspicions with his father's coworkers. At least at Obscura Books the titles he was purchasing weren't recorded for all the law to read. At least, he didn't think they were keeping records of who bought what -- perhaps he ought to question his father about that, it would be unfortunate if his voracious reading habits led to his secrets being outed to the public; he much preferred to operate in the shadows. Safer that way.
That was one of the perks of magic, however, that he never ran out of room. It was unfortunate that places such as Hogwarts were willing to give out those magical secrets to children of Muggles, Muggles who would sooner burn a wizard than acknowledge just how useful magic was. Not that Muggles deserved magic, ignorant neanderthals that they were. How anyone could consider them equal to witches and wizards was an unfathomable mystery...
He grunted as someone ran into him, causing him to lose his grip on his book. It fell to the floor, bending ancient pages, the title glowering up (or so it seemed to him), showing all the world that he was interested in "Bewitched and Beheaded". He hurriedly snatched up the book, hoping nobody had actually noticed which book he was looking at.
"Sorry, am I in your way?" He inquired, turning to see who had so rudely smacked into him. "Nice choice..." He added, noticing the book she was clutching. He had yet to feel the need to read any romance novel -- or participate in any real life romance, for that matter. There were so many more important ways to spend his time than worrying about love, such as tormenting muggles and reading, two very entertaining and instructive activities
