Character Name: Jonell Estes
Nickname: None
Age: 16
Birthday: February 4th
Place of birth: Venice Beach California
School: Silver
Grade: Sophomore
Appearance: Jonell is a tiny girl, standing 5 feet even without heels. She's in good shape, thanks to her time spent at cheerleading and a strict diet of apples, celery and protein bars. Her dark brown eyes have a slightly exotic, almost feline shape that she occasionally enhances with eyeliner. Her hair is both naturally curly and almost as dark as her eyes, but she frequently highlights it to a light honey brown that almost seems blonde in some lights.
She's very concerned with appearing sexy and glamorous, and as such wouldn't be caught dead out of the house without hair and make up done, and she makes weekly trips to the beauty salon for mani-pedis, waxing and facials. Likewise, her clothing is very rarely plain; if she does opt for a simple jeans and t-shirt affair, she'll be sure to glam it up with heels and chunky jewelry -- and of course, hoop earrings. She claims that she feels naked if she leaves the house without them.
Personality: At first glance, Jonell is your typical flaky cheerleader. Her biggest concerns are appearance and popularity; anything else comes after those two things. She is particularly interested in male attention; she'll flirt shamelessly to get what she wants. However, she isn't promiscuous; instead, she jumps from long term relationship to long term relationship, and she tends to get rather depressed if she doesn't have a boyfriend. The truth is that she's very insecure, and craves the validation of her self-worth that having a boyfriend brings. She tends to play helpless in situations she could handle herself simply because she needs the attention.
Part of her insecurities are due to the fact that she processes new information slowly. She's always struggled in school because of this, and while she's managed to maintain good enough grades to stay on the cheerleading squad, it has only been with great effort. She's convinced that other people have an easier time than she, a fact that is supported by her older brothers, both certified slacker who nonetheless breeze through school with little effort. She's determined because of this that she's stupid and her only value lies in her ability to land a man. Even at 16 her self-stated goal is to be a trophy wife, a goal she is certainly striving towards with her diet and excercise regimen.
Of course, it isn't only men she wants to be popular with. She would love nothing better than for other girls to love her, too; however, she also views them as competition, and while she claims to have enough confidence in her attractiveness to not care, the truth is that she does. She's always sizing up other girls, and when threatened she's prone to being quite bitchy, though usually passive-agressively so. She believes that all other girls are the same, so she has a difficult time trusting them. She says that boys make better friends, but what she really means is she's more intimidated by those she's in direct competition with, and as her competition is largely with the female sex, she's less comfortable with them.
She very determinedly avoids anything that isn't normal or mainstream. She doesn't understand people who are self-consciously wierd, like the scene or goth kids, or who shamelessly enjoy things outside the mainstream, like the nerds and the indie freaks. She doesn't get it, and she doesn't want to; sure, those things would garner attention, but it wouldn't be universally positive, and that's what she's holding out for.
Town Area: Venice Beach
Job: None
Transportation: Her parents, brother or public transportation
Family Background and History: Marshall Estes writes for the sports section of the local paper and runs a popular blog on football. His wife, Stefanie, is a legal aide. They have two sons, Jason and Reginald, and they had planned on stopping there. Jonell was unexpected, and abortion was discussed briefly as the preferable option -- a fact that Jonell herself is aware of and resents, feeling that she was unwanted. Her parents aren't unloving, but they are occasionally rather dense, seeming not to notice when they reinforce their daughter's negative self-image. Her mother constantly criticizes other girls who aren't attractive (or who are too wierd) and thus "Can't get men", and while her father is largely silent on that issue he doesn't try to dissuade her mother, so she assumes he agrees.
Her brothers are both self-acknowledged slackers and, in her opinion, completely lame. Jason is in his second year of college, and fascinated with such ridiculous dorkiness as Batman. Reginald is a senior, and he's the wild child of the three. She gets along with him sometimes, but at others he completely embarrasses her, particularly as he doesn't understand her desire to be popular and constantly thwarts it with his stupid antics. At least, she assumes that his stupid antics reflect poorly on her, and as such she does not appreciate them.
Her family lives a comfortably middle class lifestyle. They aren't wealthy, but they can afford what they need alongside luxuries. Of course, Jonell doesn't understand why her parents won't let her spend all their money on designer clothes, however; she realizes they aren't poor, but she thinks that pricey outfits should be a right and not a luxury. Still, her mother has taught her how to look good while being thrifty, so while she would love to be able to by this seasons hottest trends, she at least can be thankful that the man on the street can't tell Gucci from Luis Vuitton and has no idea that most of her outfit came from Target.
Class Schedule: 1st period: Physical Science

5th period: World History

Attendance Length: Since the beginning of the year

Likes: Make up, clothes, shoes, purses, and other status symbols, looking sexy, male attention, popularity, watching movies, dance pop
Dislikes: Competition, homework, any work that isn't glamorous, being single, when her brothers act dorky, anything that isn't mainstream
Other Information: ...and I decided it was necessary to have more characters. And no, she isn't the ONLY new one I'm working on. -skulks off guitily to work on new charas and wait for other mods to look over Jonell-
Face Claim: Christina Milian
Player: Dryope
Writing Sample: Jonell toyed with the ends of her hair, watching the (very cute) waiter out of the corner of her eye. He didn't seem to notice that her drink was empty, and she shouldn't have to ask; after all, serving her was his job, and she was very strategically attempting to sit so that her cleavage was more prominent, thought it didn't seem to be working, to her frustration. All she wanted was a refill on her coke, which shouldn't have been that difficult to acquire. It said right there on the menu that refills were free and he was supposed to be waiting on her!
Of course, a little validation that she was attractive would have been nice, too. Maybe it was the outfit? Was the skirt not short enough? Or was it too short, and he thought she was a harlot? No, that couldn't be it, boys never complained that something was too sexy. Maybe her neckline wasn't suitably plunging. Or should she get a different bra, one that enhanced her assets? She wished she could read his mind, because then she'd know what to change, but he remained a closed book. Stupid boy, making her life difficult, and he didn't even know.
She sighed heavily, pushing the glass further towards the edge of the table with one finger, waiting for him to get the hint. Which of course he didn't. He was, however, lingering an awful long time at that other table. Was he flirting with that red-head? Should she change her hair, was red-hair more appealing to boys? But her skin was never going to be ivory white, though that was one thing she had no wish to change. Most boys didn't care for girls who were that pale, and most girls would die a thousand deaths from skin cancer to get skin the same color as hers was naturally. She still wished the waiter would pay a little attention to her, though!
She shook the glass, rattling the remaining ice around in the bottom, glaring at the boy meaningfully, but his back was turned. Oh, his tip was going to be so lousy...!
