Alex could only do so much. She had tried and tried. None stop fighting and arguing with her dad had led to the big blow out on the phone where she basically said she wished he was dead and then hung up. How much longer was he going to try and control he rlife. trying to pay off Ashley so he would help send her home. A butler had spilled the beans to Alex when she called. Someone who was still loyal to her. She had a few eyes and ears around the place.
Thank god the letter her dad supposedly wrote did not say anything about why Alex left in the first place. That was her secret to take to the grave. Either way that was not important. What was important is Alex was being a mom. She had finally taken Kai home to meet her Aunt and Uncle. They loved the little boy. It was great. Which reminded Alex she wanted to speak to Ashley about doing a sleep over one night with Kai. Alex had room set up for a two year old, but she would not push it. Alex felt she was still on thin ice. As she should be.
Right now Alex was resting under a tree before the bell rang. She was catching up on last minute homework. She did not know how Ashley did it but being a parent was hard. Then again Ashley had Kai most of the time, so did Alex really deserve to be complaining. probably not. However she let her homework slide and now she was playing catch up. but she was stuck on a math problem. Nothing new but it sucked. "Tell me do you know what this even means?" Alex asked out loud. She did not expect anyone to over hear her.

Ash was pretty glad that he was leaving the house this morning, he had a sparkle in his eyes as he pulled out of the drive in his new car. Things were looking up for him, he had a bit more time to himself with Alex about. Hell he had even had a date or two, okay they were a complete disaster but still... they were dates, it was something he hadn't done in a while.
As he walked his usual route into the school from the lot, he spotted a familiar face sitting under a tree, working from some book by the looks of things. Ashley debated walking straight past her and ignoring her, but he was reminded that he should have been past that stage of his anger towards the girl.
"Tell me do you know what this even means?" Alex asked out loud. She did not expect anyone to over hear her.
"Should I be worried that the mother of my son is talking to herself under a tree." Ashley asked as he looked down at the girl on the grass. "I saw you and decided to come over to say hello, Kai doesn't stop babbling about you when he is at home." Ashley said to her with a smile. "Your doing a good job, just thought you should know that." Ashley said as he sat down next to her. "So what has you shouting at the heavens?" he asked.

Before Ashley came over Alex had figured out she was in the wrong chapter in her math book and put the book away in exchange for her American History book, which she still had to reread because she had no clue what she had read in the first place. Alex might love America, but she had never studied American history. Of course she knew basics, but there was a lot she did not know. Alex knew if she ever hoped to get her citizenship then knowing American History was a must, but it was still lost on her. Again she had transfered into the second semester of the course, so there was a lot she missed out on, but right now just from reading what she was about Prohibition in the 1920's she knew she would need help if she ever not only wanted to pass the course, but get her citizen ship.
In the United Kingdom Alex had never heard of any country and prohibition, the closest thing England had to it, was when there was a taxation on the home brewing of alcohol, so Prohibition was a far concept for Alex. She looked up as Ashley spoke and took a seat next to her. She laughed when he asked if he should be worried she was speaking to herself, "Perhaps, just the other day I felt the need to try and fight a tree by kicking it. Sadly to say the tree won." She laughed. Realizing that might make her sound crazier. "I am afraid now I may sound more mental then I just did, but I had a very good reason I assure you."
To stop herself from digging a further crazy hole around the guy she was still trying to get over Alex stopped laughing and just smiled, "Thank you. You have done a lovely job with Kai. I have gotten so many compliments by how well behaved he is. I am glad he is having a fun time with me. I enjoy his company immensely so." She told Ashley. Alex gave him a quick pat on the arm. Nothing to much, just a reassuring pat that said thank you for letting her back into Kai's life. "This is what has me yelling to the heavens." Alex handed him the book and pointed.
"The words are lost on me and I am afraid we have a test in a fortnight and I know that maybe be a while, but for the bloody life of me I cannot understand." Had Alex been a little smarter, although she was smart but even she could have her dumb moments, she might think to look up the meaning of the words, "What is prohibition, and rum running, bootlegging, these are some of the most abnormal words I have heard. Oh and roaring 20's, is that some sort of music genre." Alex said. For a normally smart girl in school, she was stumped with this class.
