Voicemail for Colby

[Catalina Corinthos]

After leaving Renton a voicemail she hopped off the bed. She began to pacing the floor back and forth. Taking a deep breath she tried a few different times to call him. Each time she hung up before the phone even rang. Finally she looked in the mirror. "You can do this Cat" she told herself. Dialing his number she let it ring and held her breath the whole time. When it went to voice mail she was a bit relieved.

"Hey Colby it is me Cat we moved back. Things did not work out, with Uncle Jason's job" she said softly into the phone. "I have missed you" she told him in the voicemail. "I know you might hate me but I know you understand at the same time. Call me back later on or if you want to" she added. "I still love you" she whispered and hung up the phone.

Colby was out mowing the lawn, not a chore he hated but one he didn't like doing. After all when you live in L.A. you hire someone for landscaping and such! It wasn't even noon yet and already it was feeling sticky. He stopped for a moment and peeled off his shirt then used it to wipe away sweat.

With the earbuds in and the music of 'The Electric Slide' playing he was oblivious to the ringing of his cell phone. He was thinking about the girl from the dance, May. There was something about her that intrigued him, he didn't get a chance to talk to her afterwards. He wanted to get to know her, and maybe she'd help him forget the past. He stopped and sighed wondering what Cat was doing now. How quickly this would come back to haunt him.

Finally he was finished and not a moment too soon in his opinion. Mom was taking him for lunch, a tradition they started when he was old enough to actually work the lawn mower. He tossed his sweaty shirt into the hamper, missing it by a long shot and was about to take a shower when he thought to check to see any messages. He nearly dropped his phone in the toilet when he got Cat's message. He quicky called her back.

"C'mon Cat...answer, answer." He thought to himself.

Catalina was putting some clothes away she forgot earlier. As she shut her closet her phone rang. She saw the number and swallowed. She was still so nervous. She pressed talk and put the phone to her ear. "Hey Colby" she said and swallowed. "I did not call at a bad time earlier did I?" she was sitting on her window seat and looked out the window. "I did not know how you would feel about me being back."

She pulled her les up and wrapped her one arm around them and glanced around her room. "I live in riverside now" she added. She knew she was babbling but she was afraid Colby would turn her away she would deserve it.

Colby was stunned. So much so he sort of flopped on the floor like a disgarded ragdoll. "I was just doing yard work when you called I just...when did you get back here?" It probably came out worse sounding that it really was. "I didn't think I'd ever hear from you again." His voice cracked slightly.

"I missed you so much babe," his eyes moistened. "Where are you in Riverside, I wanna see you again and this time not let you go for anything." Yes there was the problem of Quenten to deal with but that time would come.

"I was just getting ready to go with the folks to lunch, I'd like it if you'd join us." It was a simple thing to ask, why did the words not want to come out correctly. "I could come pick you up and we could meet my folks where ever they choose." Just being with her was more than he could hope for.

"I'm sorry things didn't work out with your uncle's job, I know times are tough." He didn't think she would lie to him but the move seemed like a quick escape from the past demons that haunted her.

Catalina smiled softly as she listened to him. He did not reject here he was there for as much as he was before, maybe even more. "We just moved in today" she told him. She told him her address and looked outside. "I have missed you to so much" she admited. "I.. I never dated anyone but you" she said honestly. "You have always had my heart so I can't give it to someone else."

She walked over to her closet. "I would love to join you and your parents for lunch. And I have so much to tell you" she said to him. She wanted to tell him her progress with things. "I am sorry I was a coward and left so quick. But I am here to stay no one and nothing is going to scare me away she promised."

"Let me get ready" she told him and looked at the clock. "Take a quick shower and such" she said heading to the bathroom. "Call me when you are five minutes away" she told him wiht a smile in her voice. "I can't wait to see you Colby" she said softly as she turned on the shower. "I will see you in a bit" she said and hung up the phone so she could get ready.
