"I love you, Peyton Saunders"...those words had haunted Peyton for two days. On Friday Peyton had been confronted with her worst fear. The fear that she would be separated from Isaac for good. She could not handle that. Then he said it, "I love you, Peyton Saunders" He said those words. The words she had been longing to say and here for over a year. Peyton had always been afraid if she said I love you then it would change things. End their games and make them have to be this couple like everyone else, but in her mind it changed nothing.
They could still play their games and have their fun. Only now she wasn't sure she would ever see Isaac again. he had promised to come back and nothing..no phone calls, emails or instant messages from Isaac. Peyton checked her phone, her voice mail, her email and her instant message every ten minutes. She had tried calling Isaac and no answer. Nothing. It was not Sunday, for the past two days Peyton had been in her room waiting for soem sing from Isaac. Some sign her was not leaving. Nothing.
She was not normally this over dramatic, but Peyton was crying non stop cause she felt her heart being ripped from her chest. She sat on her bed curled into a ball holding the pillow. There was a soft knock at the door and in walked Todd, "We need to talk."
"Go away." Peyton said.
"I can't. Listen I know what happened on Friday was scary, but i only ever wanted what was best for you."
"Best for me. Is keeping me and the man i love what's best for me."
"Yes it is Peyton. I am sorry, but it is what is best for you. That boy is not good for you. You say how he beat his dad. I am afraid he will get that mad at you honey." Todd explained.
"Did you see how his dad beat him. Come on, you have to know I would never let a man touch me. I am more likely to kick Isaac's ass." Peyton told her father.
"You have your mothers personality you know that." It brought a pained smile to Todd's face. The reason Todd drove drunk that night, was because he had walked in on his best friend screwing his wife. So Todd had gotten drunk, then drove with his wife in the car....still pissed she cheated on him. "Honey about what Isaac said, the secrets things have happened Peyton. That you do not know about."
Todd looked at his daughter and knew it was time she learned the truth. "Your mother...the night she died. She slept with Henry Norton. I walked in on them with Isaac, we both saw it. I stormed off and started drinking. Your mother begged me to stop drinking and talk to her all night, but I wouldn't listen. She begged me for my keys and I wouldn't listen. The fighting continued when we got into the car, she admitted the affair had been going on for a few months and I was so pissed I swerved and...thats when the accident happened. Your mother died because I drove drunk. Henry, Isaac and I have been keeping that secret from you. I am so sorry honey. I just don't want you to get hurt like I did. I don't want Isaac to break your heart like your mother broke mine."
All the blood drained from Peyton's face. Her mother had cheated for a few months and her father killed her mother in a drunk driving accident and to top it all off her supposed boyfriend, the man who loved her knew all of this and never told her. Peyton was not sure what hurt more. The truth her mother was a cheater, the truth about her father, or this revelation that Isaac had kept a secret from her.
All Peyton knew was in that moment her heart broke even more. She lost the man she loved, and was betrayed all in the same weekend. "Get out..."
"Peyton listen to me please..."
"Get out now...." Peyton said raising her voice.
Todd sighed and stood up. He walked toward the door and gave Peyton one last look before walking out the door. Once the door closed Peyton hid her face into a pillow and screamed all her pain into the pillow. She was truly broken in this moment, more then she had ever been broken before.
Todd picked up the phone and dialed Henry's number. He left a voice mail. "I told Peyton everything. The affair and driving drunk. So tell your son there are no more secrets, but I think it best if he stays away from my daughter for now." With that said Todd hung up the phone truly thinking his daughter didn't need to feel such a strong emotion for a boy.
