Getting called home when your parents have to go into work officially sucked, Ashley was more than happy to spend time with Kai. These were moments to treasure, he had his home work for the rest of the day. Kai was really interested in having fun, so he had packed the new car with a few treats and headed out of the city for a more private beach than the ones usually used by the populace of the city. It had taken a couple of hours to drive there, but he was more than happy when they got there.
The view was beautiful, the two of them were in shorts and sandals, Kai looked adorable as he usually did and he attracted most of the girls attention. Even on this quiet stretch of beach there were a few people on it. Mostly families, but a couple of locals were there evident by their non vibrant coloured clothing. Ashley brought them some ice creams before he threw a blanket on the sand and sat down. Kai sat between his legs as they ate neither really talking and nothing really needed to be said.
Ashley thought about Alex and what was going on in his life, he still loved the girl that much was clear to him, but he just couldn't think of putting his heart back out there for the girl. He didn't know whether the girl was even available, but he knew that they had something more important to worry about than their love life. Kai getting hurt was a serious threat if they tried again, and that was not something he was willing to do. And he was pretty sure that Alex wasn't either. She was really trying and he was happy for Kai.
"Daddy where's mommy?" Kai asked.
"She's still at school baby boy." Ashley said to him. "You can see her tomorrow probably." Ashley said to him.
"Okay." Kai said.
"You like your mom right?" Ashley asked him Kai looked up at him with a smile and gave him a nod. "Thats good to hear." Ashley said to him. "Your momma loves you very much, I just didn't realise how much until recently." Ashley said to him he knew the boy didn't understand the last bit.
"Do you have a light?" someone asked Ashley looked up.
"Sorry but I don't smoke." Ashley said to the guy who nodded walking of. "Hey how about I give you a piggy back ride when we are done?" Ashley said to him Kai whooped.
