(OOC: Apologies to Terry Prachett)
IC: Of all the things Wynn COULD have expected, a slap across the face with gloves was not one of them. He took a deep breath.
"That, good sir, is an insult to the name of..." Wynn looked around, there was a snowball's chance in hell that he would use his real name. There was a Snapple bottle of lemonade. Hmm? Snapplelemon? Bottleade? No, those smelled like burnt bacon in used gym socks. He saw someone with a bottle of tea, and something clicked. Tea what? Teashoe? Tealemon? Time was running out! Thats when it hit him, of course!!
"The name of Teatime." He tried to deliver the name like the actor did in 'Hogfather', he even did the little eye twitch for effect. "I will not be impaled on anything for you will be wearing the sign of T very soon!"
Julia had spoke up. He really had no intent on fighting the long haired kid, who seemed to have been trapped in some time dimension. "Fine Julia, I'll be the gentleman and not fight him." He reached into his pocket and took out a 20 sided D&D die. He tossed in the air with his left hand and caught it with his right and presented it like a rare jewel.
"20 sided dice roll off, best 2 out of 3 rolls."
He ignored the comment from Connor, there were more pressing issues at hand.

“I hope no one tries to serenade you.” Connor admitted with a grin, still amused by how enthusiastically his boyfriend greeted his best friend. He knew that they had really only just met, but still, had to be a good sign. He would have hated it if they couldn’t get on. “I can’t compete with that. And I’m doing you more of a favour by not singing. So just, you know, um, avoid cute people who sing. Please. And of course he exists! I don’t have that good of an imagination.” he teased Julia.
“Hey!” he protested, wincing slightly at the punch. Julia was actually getting pretty good at that, must be all the practice she had on him. He didn’t know her thoughts about strangling Kian with body organs if his boyfriend mistreated him, but he happened to feel similarly about her and Wynn. He got that they were really good friends, maybe not as good as they were before the Haley incident, but still, pretty could. That did not excuse the fact though that during the Haley incident, Wynn pretty much treated his best friend like rubbish. Though Julia was willing to overlook that, for some unknown reason, Connor wasn’t as willing.
Still, if she wanted him to play nice, he would for her sake. And to avoid another punch. “Okay, okay, I’m sorry.” he apologised. “Maybe he’s not that bad.” But he lowered his voice just a little, leaning closer to his friend. “But he was really bad to you Jules! Don’t forget that. And I don’t hear no apology.”
The offer of half a sandwich, especially such a good half a sandwich, quickly earned his appreciation, and he took it with his free hand and a grin. One bite only reaffirmed how appreciative he was. “Homemade too, oh that’s so good! You’ll have to thank your mum for me. Yeah, Julia, have a brownie, they’re really good” is what he intended to say, but with a mouthful of food, it didn’t sound quite like that.
Then Danny turned his attention on Connor and Kian, and it was hard for Connor to hold back a laugh at his assumption. He was as far from hitting on Julia as possible. But before he could state this, the kid turned his attention away again.
“Danny, he’s...a character.” he decided, smiling now. “I like him though. He’s different.” He also looked as though he was about to break down or something, and Connor felt a little sorry for him. But then Wynn pulled out a weird looking dice, saying things the Irishman had no chance of understanding, and he shot his boyfriend a brief, quizzical look, seeing if he knew what was going on. Well, there certainly wasn’t going to be a fight. Not a normal one anyway. “Jules, did you want me to distract them while you make a quick getaway?” he whispered to his friend. And then something came to mind, and he said this loud enough so that everyone could hear. "Wait...Wynn, you're suggesting to play for Julia with a game of dice? Seriously?" Now that was lousy. Julia honestly still couldn't be considering him. "Sure you don't want to go Julia?"

Danny looked at Wynn like he was totally insane which was rather ironic. He felt he was being mocked which angered him further. "You sir are a bounder and a knave! Even suggesting that we gamble for a lady's honor is scurrilous. You will not cast her in the role of a harlot. If it were not for Lady Julia's delicate sensibilities I would send you to your grave without any further discussion, but I respect her too much not to obey her request for a peaceful solution instead." Unfortunately, Danny could not think of said solution.
Kian was having a very hard time keeping a straight face during all this. Like his boyfriend, he was rooting for Danny who was quite entertaining and obviously sincere. Kian said in a loud enough voice to carry. "I propose a contest suited to romance. I suggest that all the suitors for Lady Julia's hand shall give her a kiss and she will judge the winner who shall then have the right to woo her." He thought it was the ideal solution and if Julia didn't want to kiss one of them then the contest was already over.

Julia buried her face in her hands. This was beyond humiliating. "Connor, you've never played DnD, have you?" She sighed into her hands. A lousy game of dice, indeed! Clearly her bff needed education on the finer points of geekdom.
Her most pressing concern, of course, was the fact that Danny and Wynn were at one another's throats, and apparently Danny was going to go psycho on Connor and Kian, too. She was beginning to worry that perhaps he was a tad bit possessive. Were all nerd boys this cling and jealous? Because she'd always had a notion she would date someone well-balanced who didn't glare at her friends and keep tabs on every place she went.
Her head snapped up at the suggestion that she decide who to date by kissing them, and in public! "Excuse me?!" She nearly shrieked, "If you boys want to get expelled, don't drag me into it! I've sunk way too many hours into school to let them kick me out just because it's a full moon and everyone else is being dumb." She was perhaps exaggerating the seriousness of the situation a tiny bit; she'd only get detention for PDA, not expelled, but she still couldn't believe that they would even suggest something that was going to get her in trouble just as much as them.

Kian held his hands up in concession. "I am sorry Julia, I didn't mean here in the cafeteria but at and arranged place and time congenial to those involved. And not necessarily public," he said quietly, worried that he had offended his boyfriend's best friend and he was going to get cut off as a result. He also did his best not to offend girls anyway for he had found in the past that they were the worst enemies and it was best to avoid angering them.
He could see that perhaps the contestant they were rooting for was not doing so well because of his fervency. Kian would love to have helped him out, but as Danny was as likely to knock him out as the red-headed Wynn, he decided to stay on the other side of the table.
He decided perhaps reasoning with Julia was the best course. "I think it comes down to, Do you like Danny enough to wish to date him or do you acknowledge Wynn's right to control who you see? Those are the main points to this disagreement I believe," he said, ready to duck if Julia should turn on him.

A kiss? Wynn swallowed nervously. After the kiss from Haley, he seriously wasn't ready to kiss another girl at the moment. "I...I don't think that's...that's a good idea." He tripped over his words. "I mean the school really looks down on that sort of thing and it wouldn't be right taking it in public."
He shot a dirty look at Danny. "I am no nave, you scoundrel," he was pulling words from where he could think of. "I will admit that what I suggested was wrong but maybe one of a more artistic nature perhaps?" If it involved drawing he would be a shoo in and the raven haired Fabio would have no idea what happened! In his mind the flipped the black cape and twirled an extra long mustache.
His face turned to a hurt serious. "Is that what you think I'm doing? Controlling her?" He shoved the dice back in his pocket. "I don't need to be insulted by Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and and Cousin Itt!" He looked at Julia. "If thats the kind of people you want to hang around with, then its been good knowing you." He felt slight catch in his throat.

Julia looked between Wynn and Kian, dark eyes hurt. She had been trying to build back the friendship she had with Wynn, and now all her efforts were for naught.
"No, Wynn....!!" She leaped to her feet, sparing a glare for her best friend and his guy. "So what, you think dissing my friends is any different than Wynn here trying to....whatever....challenge Danny? Because it's not. I appreciate your concern" -- although she didn't sound particularly appreciative at the moment -- "but maybe I don't want to date either one of them. So just...just...." She realized she wasn't entirely sure where she had been going with that, and took a deep breath instead of continuing.
"I like Wynn. I like Danny. But I don't want to date someone who tries to attack any guy that talks to me. Which is apparently every single guy I know." She sniffed. She had apparently conveniently forgotten her own jealousy over Haley.
She turned her attention back to Wynn, "Don't go! Connor is really nice....most of the time." She couldn't say the same about Kian, as she didn't actually know him. "I'm sorry they're being jerks! They'll stop." She gave the other three boys a look that dared them to contradict her on that point.

The kissing contest was a funny suggestion to Connor, but he didn’t even let himself crack a smile, let alone a chuckle, because he knew how Julia would likely react to it. And his best friend didn’t disappoint, if anything her reaction was just a tad more extreme than he had first guessed it would be. Getting expelled for kissing? He was certain even she didn’t buy that, so he didn’t know how she could expect them to. But, he’d also never seen her so...scary looking, so he was happy to take the coward’s way out and not point this fact out to her. After all, he was certain that if she kept up the punching, with her uncanny ability to hit the same spot on his arm every single time, she would cause some serious damage soon enough.
He agreed with Kian on one point completely, Wynn certainly seemed intent on controlling Julia to that small degree. And he wasn’t agreeing just because Kian was his boyfriend, and really cute, even if those things were true. And even if Julia seemed to currently think Connor’s current attitude was because he didn’t like Wynn (he didn’t of course, but that wasn’t why he was acting how he was), he actually just cared about Julia, and didn’t want her to get hurt again, plain and simple.
But as she pointed out, he was doing a lousy job of showing that was his intention. And getting her annoyed at him wasn’t really helping at all, so he figured, as much as it pained him, an attitude adjustment was in order. Even if Wynn making out he didn’t want anything to do with Julia if she counted the other three guys as friends. Which seemed like another way to manipulate his friend, but if Julia wanted him to play nice, he would try to play nice. For now. He was generally friendly anyway, the other guy just seemed to bring out this other side of him.
Glancing at Danny, he could work out who was Cousin Itt, but the other two had him stumped. “Am I meant to be Fozzie?’’ he whispered to Kian, squeezing his hand, before deciding to continue with that train of thought another time. “Uh, well...” he stammered, not really wanting to say this, but one glance at Julia made him go through with it, “Ok, I’m sorry Wynn. I could have been a bit...nicer. Why don’t you stay and have lunch, and we can get to know each other better. You too Danny. We should all try to be friends, for Julia’s sake.” And if he was going to suffer, he figured those two should as well, so Connor smartly added one more thing to try to ensure their cooperation. “I mean, if you care about her and all.”

Kian simply sat back and shut up. If Julia wanted to be friends with the little turd that was her business, but he wasn't going to push himself to make friends with Wynn. He was more discriminating in his friendships, Neither Evan or Patch would ever try to manipulate him the way Julia was being. He began to eat his long neglected lunch, feeling a bit bristly over the whole situation. The only person he wasn't pissed off at was Connor. His boyfriend was far too fine to get pissed at over his friend's actions.

Danny was deeply upset. Julia was clearly blaming him for the altercation though Wynn had started it by butting in where he hadn't been invited. And Julia wouldn't let them settle it so his honor could be satisfied. He normally would do anything for the girl he cared about, but she had hurt him deeply by choosing Wynn's side when he was clearly in the wrong. To him that meant she liked the little scoundrel better than she liked Danny. This meant he was wasting his time completely.
Danny bowed to them all with a mocking flourish and spun on his heel to walk out of the cafeteria with his head held hi. He kept going when he hit the hall, dropping the roses in a forlorn trail behind him, a trail of despair leading from the cafeteria all the way out to the quad and onward. His driver wouldn't be there for another hour, so he kept going until he reached the escarpment over the ocean. Sitting with his back against a boulder, he stared at the roiling waters below. He reflected it looked far more welcoming than Julia had.
