Danny felt like Julia was not taking his wooing of her at all seriously and this had begun weighing on his mind greatly. His mother had even sat down to confess she was worried about him and whatever was getting him down needed to be taken care of so he wouldn’t spiral down into another depressive episode that would send him back to the hospital. She advised he work harder on conquering whatever obstacle that was upsetting him. His mother was almost as crazy as he was, but he usually listened to what she advised.
So today Danny dressed in skinny black jeans, a white poets blouse with full sleeves complete with lacy cuffs and collar. He wore his hair down and he carried a large bouquet of pink rose buds. Walking into the cafeteria, he marched directly to the table Julia was sitting at and went down on one knee. Gazing into her beautiful eyes, he began to sing in a clear beautiful tenor, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. He put all his admiration and adoration into the song.
“Julia Warner, I am officially requesting permission to court you,” Danny stated after he finished singing. He hoped she wouldn’t think he was just being dramatic. He knew they were young, but he had never met anyone like her. She was beautiful and she understood him. No one had ever gotten him before and he was terrified he would lose her to one of the many boys that surrounded her every day.

Wynn hadn't felt this great in ages. He managed to snag on chocolate iced donut before the calamity in the hall happened then on top of that he aced a test that had troubled him. It was as if the gods themselves were bestowing the best of luck towards him.
That was for now.
He got in the cafeteria line with the other students, he stood out with a big grin on his face while the others looked like something from a 1940's prison chain gang movie. He took the chicken nuggets and green beans which looked so pathetic. Still nothing was going to take by surprise as to what he was about to see.
He looked for a spot to sit when he spied Julia and some guy there with her, wearing that shirt that was so famously talked about on Seinfeld. As he approached the table he hear the, he counted, ten words he didn't want to be hearing at that moment. He lost Haley to Cam and now he was losing Julia to this pirate wanna be.
"Over my dead body!" Wynn hissed out, sure it wasn't official with he and Julia but he didn't want to take that chance.

Danny just finished his heart felt request and suddenly a challenge was issued. He stood and turned his long hair whipping around like a flash of chocolate silk. His eyes held a manic look. "Gladly," he declared in a bold voice. He strode over to the red head and pulled a pair of gloves from his waistband to slap his rival's face with. "Declare your seconds, we will meet at dawn on the beach!"
Danny had a pair of duelling swords, but no pistols as his area of interest was before gun powder had been brought from China to the west. He was perfectly serious, as stress from being interrupted had vaulted him into a full blown manic episode. "Who will I have the pleasure of piercing on my blade?" he asked, already envisioning the glory of his triumph.
Danny's main problem was that he had made no friends yet that he could call on to be his seconds and he had no idea where they could find a surgeon to officiate at the duel. "Unless of course you are too cowardly to defend your honor!" he dissed the other student who seemed to feel he had some prior claim on his lady love's affections.

Julia goggled at Danny when he began to sing to her. In the middle of the cafeteria. Maybe Connor was right, and he actually did like her. She'd been dutifully rationalizing away all the signs, but it was difficult to come up with any reason a boy would serenade her in public if he wasn't truly interested; he was far too earnest for this to be a joke, so he must be serious. She would have to apologize to Connor for doubting him; High School Musical fan or not, he still understood his fellow males far better than she did.
She was still trying to formulate a response when Wynn stalked over. Brown eyes darted between the two boys, shock growing as they proceeded to fight over her. Over her!! That was almost less expected than Danny's song, particularly since Wynn was involved. Her interest in him had faded since that misstep back in January; she'd forgiven him enough to still be friends with him, but she wasn't about to forget that he'd all but admitted he would only be settling if he went out with her.
"Umm, hello?" She narrowed her eyes at the pair. "I'm sitting right here!" Despite her frequent admonissions that all problems should be solved with violence, she did not want to be the cause of a duel. Duels were fought over girls like Haley, beautiful and elegant and wealthy, not awkward nerds like her. Then again, Wynn had wanted very much to fight Cameron for Haley, so perhaps he just felt the need to fight over any girl who talked to him. Boys were so strange sometimes. "If you fight over me, I'll never talk to either one of you again."

Danny was about to get in Wynn's face when he heard Julia's ultimatum. He turned back to her, his dark eyes pleading. "But Lady Julia, honor is at stake. Woe is me. If I do as my love wishes then my honor is like the ashes on a windy night, but if I do not then my love will turn her most beautiful face from me and my heart will break in pieces too small to ever be repaired.
Throwing himself at Julia's feet, Daniel's hair fell all around them. "I will do anything you ask of me, my love, but I will be less of a man in everyone's eyes if I back out of this duel. Perhaps you can suggest a contest that will allow us to do as you ask and yet still allow us to keep honor and show which of us has the right to woo your beautiful self," he begged.

Kian leaned against the wall of the cafeteria waiting for Connor and watched the days spectacle. This was a new one though. He hadn't seen anyone serenaded in the cafeteria before and had never seen anyone challenged to a duel before ever or anywhere. It was very entertaining. He wished he had thought of it first. He could use the swordplay practice.
Kian saw Connor walk in and almost ran to hug and kiss him. Being in the theater, Kian had almost no inhibitions and he certainly wouldn't give up the chance for smooching his gorgeous boyfriend. He might have to avoid the athletic section for a while, but it was worth every bit of inconvenience.
"You've been missing something amazing, love," Kian informed his lover and gestured at the are where a circle of students had formed. "We've had a love song. An intervention and a challenge to a duel." Just then the girl spoke up and the long haired boy became distraught.

The first indication Connor had that his boyfriend was excited to see him was said boyfriend’s lips pressing very enthusiastically against his own, matching the arms that squeezed around him for a tight hug. He was a bit more modest however, not one for such public displays of affection like this, especially when he enjoyed the kiss a little too much. So his face flushed just slightly as Kian let him go. He supposed he had to get used to this sort of thing, now that he was dating.
“A song and a duel? Oh, that’s no fun.” he chuckled. Finally, someone sings at school and he misses it. Looking over in the direction Kian pointed, he didn’t know what to expect, but it wasn’t his best friend, with two guys looking like they were about to lunge for each other. “Um, well, suppose this is as good a time as any.” he chuckled, leading Kian over, where he took the seat directly next to his friend, his boyfriend sitting on his other side.
“Julia, meet Kian. Kian, meet Julia. And I’m guessing you’re Danny.” Connor grinned at the boy, finding it easy to work out who he was, from what Julia told him about the boy. “And this is...Wynn.” His cheerful disposition changed immediately when he spotted the other guy. He’d never liked him, not with what he did to his friend. “We don’t like him.” he whispered, not so quietly, to his boyfriend, taking Kian’s hand under the table. He was already rooting for Danny.

Julia flung her arms around Connor the moment he seated himself beside her. "Hey, you didn't forget me!" She unwrapped herself from her friend and leaned across him to address the boy with him. "So you're Kian, huh? You exist after all." She grinned, elbowing Connor. This Kian guy was pretty cute; he'd better treat Connor well, or she'd strangle him with his intestines.
Her delight at Connor's appearance quickly turned to annoyance when he unneccessarily began mouthing off about Wynn. "Connor!!" She exclaimed indignantly, glaring at her best friend and punching him in the shoulder. "That's not nice." She hissed. What was wrong with all the guys in her life today? Was aggression contagious? Or was it simply a by-product of having too much testosterone -- she firmly ignored her own violent tendencies while mentally chastising them. The only thing that could make this lunch period any worse was if Jeremy decided to show up and join in on haranguing Wynn.
She glanced over at Wynn and Danny; she wanted to tell Connor that apparently he was correct about Danny's affections, but she couldn't very well say anything in front of him. She couldn't ask for help sorting this out, either; not that she was much inclined to ask Connor's help if he was going to be ugly to her other friends

Kian smiled warmly, already liking Julia, just for the fact she had provided such excellent entertainment on such a boring day. He took her hand and leaned over it to kiss the back briefly. "Julia Warner, it is an absolute pleasure to meet my beloved's best friend, not to mention a beautiful damsel with multiple courtiers on the verge of dying to gain the right to vie for your lovely hand. I am absolutely jealous. No one has ever even serenaded me let alone tried to kill someone for me. Maybe I should dye my hair darker and get dark contact lenses," he said teasing lightly in his theatrical way. He sat down close to Connor and replaced Julia's hand with the darker Irishman's, rubbing his knuckles idly as his eyes continued to watch the spectacle with glee.
Digging in his lunch bag, he found a thick ham and cheese sandwich on homemade potato bread. His food might not be the standard, but it was always filling and delicious. His mother was a traditional Irish cook and he loved it even if he sometimes got odd looks especially on the days she sent Colcannon in with him. Lifting the lid of his thermos would send the scent of cabbage through out the cafeteria, causing him to get odd looks. "Connor you want half my sandwich?" he asked for he knew half would be enough to fill him up. "I have some brownies too. Julia?" he asked holding one out to her .

Danny was not pleased to look up and see two good looking guys hovering over Julia. That was beyond ill manners. You just did not hit on a damsel when there was a duel challenge being issued for same said damsel. "Oy you two, back away from her. She has prior claims that have yet to be settled," he said angrily. He didn't realize that one of them was Connor the one she had already told him preferred males.
"And you!" he said pointing at Wynn who seemed to have lost his tongue in shock. "Are you going to answer me or are you just a bloody coward?" he asked in exasperation. Didn't the males in this school know how these things were supposed to be handled. Perhaps his first impression was true and the school was filled with Orcs in disguise.
"Julia, this is a horrible place filled with Orcs and low-mannered Knaves. Come away with me and I will treat you as a princess and never allow any who might insult you to approach," he vowed. He was trembling for the stress of the situation was sending him into a manic episode.
