"I'm sure I can stretch to buying Darrell a hot chocolate," Felipe replied with a grin down at the boy in question. Rufio looked hopefully up at Felipe. "And maybe something for you," he added to the dog who panted even more enthusiastically in reply.
He shot Ivy a look of surprise at her next question, unable to hold back a short laugh. "Perfect?" His grin returned. "I see I have you completely fooled!" he added with a mock-sinister look on his face. "This is all a ploy," he continued as they headed along the sea front and towards the coffee shop he'd noticed earlier. "Go out wlking with a cute dog and picking up even cuter girls by fussing over their younger brothers." He winked. "Has it worked?" he asked with another laugh.
Hopefully she'd know he was teasing and not even remotely serious. Well, calling her cute hadn't been a joke but the rest, of course, had been. That said, he had a feeling Ivy's comment had been meant as something of a joke, too. Him? Perfect? His mama would laugh the entire way through the rest of the week if she'd heard Ivy. 'Perfection', she'd say, didn't leave dirty laundry all over his bedroom floor, would offer to take the rubbish out before being asked and would fetch shopping when asked the first time rather than the tenth!
