Dare listened to them both with a great deal of enjoyment. I am not sure anyone would accept me in a Victorian woman's dress like they did Mana or believe I am a vampire like Gackt in Malice Mizer, but I do like the dramatic elements as long as it doesn't overpower the music or the balance in the band. We could try jamming one day at our loft. My dad will be back on tour by the weekend so it will just be us, Tony and Martin. Tony is my driver/body guard and Martin is kinda the butler, cook, etc. They will just leave us alone though, we could order out for lunch and work on some things.
"I suppose if you can figure out which one you like the best you can go out with her before asking the other one out. Tell us about... Izzy and Lia. Maybe we can get an idea of which one you seem to like better as you talk," he suggested with a grin. "Or... we could invite them both to watch us jam. Get an idea of how they feel too."

"Jam?" Taki's eyes widened in surprise. How was jam involved in music? Not wanting to show his utter ignorance he nodded enthusiastically. As long as it was legal that's all that mattered but he made a mental note to ask Evan after lunch what jam had to do with it. Or otouto-san... He'd know. "Drums, lead guitar and bass... We are already close to being able to form a band. Now all we need to do is find music we all agree on." Easier said than done, he felt. "But Gackt is a good musician. I like his music. Perhaps I should ask Lia and Izzy to join us...." The idea had merit. He settled down to tell his two friends about the two girls. How easy it was to talk to Izzy... How much fun she was. And Lia... Her desire to try and protect him with the omamori in the cafeteria... It showed a sensitive side that he liked. "Why do they both have to be so nice?" he finished with a half-hearted frown. But why was he so worried? It was unliekly either of them were interested in him. Not in that way. As a friends yes but nothing more. He shot Evan a smirk, opting to change the subject before his head imploded. "But I am glad to know your sandwich... aaah... survived," he said instead.

“Sure, jam session will be awesome fun!” Evan enthused, with a vigorous head nod to go along with it. “Don’t get a chance to play with other people much anyway, so at least it’ll be fun, even if nothing comes of it apart from lunch. I’ll be in that for sure. I like to eat. In case none of you noticed.” he laughed, licking his lips in case he missed any spring roll crumbs. Wouldn’t want it to go to waste after all. “You wouldn’t happen to have a drum kit already at your place? I reckon I could probably get everything in my car, but if you’ve got one already, I can stay lazy.”
He wondered just what Dare needed a bodyguard for. Then he decided he didn’t care, cause it was awesome, and the reasoning he was making up in his head was probably cooler than reality anyway. His father probably just worried about his son while he was away, wanted to make sure there was someone to keep an eye on him. That was the reasonable explanation, so of course, it wasn’t the idea that Evan was entertaining. He preferred instead to think of his new friend as a sort of secret agent and the ‘bodyguard’ was actually his secret agent partner. He knew it wasn’t true, it was impossible, but it didn’t stop him from wondering how he could get into the spy business. Hughes. Evan Hughes.
Dare’s input made Evan laugh, and he playfully nudged his shoulder. “Look at you, with the advice and all. You would have been mad with the ladies. If you, you know liked them. You should try all that out on a guy you like. Invite him to the jam session.” he offered, thinking that seemed a far compromise. He wouldn’t invite Brit though, his girlfriend had enough on her plate to think about going to some play session. She’d probably want to spend some time with Zac. Which reminded him he needed to drop by for a visit too.
“Cause if there were only a few nice girls, all of us would fight over them, and that wouldn’t be good. Would the girls like it though? I mean, it’s hot when girls fight, do they reckon it’s hot when we fight? Ah, who knows, they’re impossible to understand.” he shrugged.
The deliberate topic change went completely unnoticed by Evan though. He just grinned more at the chance to talk about his exploits again. “Whenever a sandwich needs saving, and by saving I mean toasting with things I probably shouldn’t be given access to and then eaten, I’ll be there. It was a chicken and cheese sandwich too, it was awesome! The cheese went all melty. Anyway, where were we? Oh yeah! I’ll spread the word to everyone I know about bowling and eating on Sat night. Going to be sweet!”

Dare noticed the confused look on Taki's face regarding the Jam session. He tried to think how to explain it to someone who wasn't up on American idiom. "A jam session is when a bunch of musicians get together and just play, not necessarily with a purpose. I am not really sure why they call it that except maybe that it is really great when everything starts to jell," he said, his brow slightly furrowed as he thought it out verbally. He started feeling full and held out his carton of lo mein to the other boys in case they wanted some.
"I think we have every instrument you could possibly want unless you want something like an Australian didgideroo, that's because I didn't go with my dad on his last Australian tour. I am the instrument collector. He only cares about drums," Dare said with a chuckle. "You can use his home set, Evan. We have a bass Taki, if you don't want to carry yours," he offered. really excited about the proposed event.
Dare blushed when Evan teased him about how he would be good with girls. "Going on tour with adults you see a lot and the girls never shut up even when a little boy is around. Oddly enough, males are more of a mystery to me. The band members don't ever talk and especially around me. I don't think I have met anyone gay at the school except Kian and he seems to be seeing someone. It's different being gay... talking to a girl might mean rejection, talking to a boy might mean plastic surgery.
"Anyway, I will tell the few people I know about bowling and eating. What time and where?" Dare asked, not sure if it was the sort of thing that Phil and Mew enjoyed.

"Aaah I see," Takumi replied when Dare explained the strange word. "It is slang... yes?" The other boy nodded and the Japanese youth's face cleared. "Then I cannot hope to understand," he added with a laugh as he helped himself to some of Dare's food. "I haven't heard of a dig... aahm... digger... That instrument from Australia but it sounds interesting." He'd wikipedia it later back home... assuming he could remember the word. Surely he could just search for Australian musical instruments or something? "But I have my bass at home. I couldn't leave Osaka without her," he added with a fond smile. He loved his ESP: Buzz Bass and coming to the USA without it would have been unthinkable.
"But as for Saturday night..." he continued before taking a bite of the lo mein, "... it will indeed be sweet!" More slang? Probably but he was starting to pick it up and would soon be able to use such terms himself... and correctly. "Time... hmm... how about 5? Or is that too early? We could have a few games... get some food then watch a movie. Or is it too late? Where is the bowling alley, Evan? I still don't really know the roads around town." Another thing he'd master... In time.

Evan couldn’t really say he was a big fan of Dare’s dad’s band, but even so, the chance to play on his own home kit was pretty cool. “Sweet, sounds good Dare. I’ll even bring my special drumsticks for the occasion.” he decided for a laugh. They weren’t so much as special, as they were scribbled on in black permanent texta. One drumstick had a lightning bolt streaking up the side, and the other had what Evan really tried to make look like a dragon with its wings spread. He thought he did pretty good with it, it was hard to draw on a drumstick. Especially when you didn’t have any drawing talent in the first place.
“Hmmm, the alley. Well, if you leave from here, it’s the first left, then you keep going straight past the place that has all the cool really bad movies, then right, past the burger joint with the mad cow picture on the window, and then left again at the...I’ll just write directions for ya.” Evan laughed, catching the confused look on both his companions faces. “5 sounds good, give us plenty of time to muck around before the masses get starved. And by masses I mean me.” Realising it was nearly time to get to class, he gathered his stuff together. “Can’t wait, feel like I haven’t been to the movies in forever! And bowling too!” It had probably been closer to a couple of weeks, not eternity, since he’d been to the movies, but in Evan’s mind, they were the same thing. “Okay, then, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah class time!”
