Saint actually grinned when she said that she didn’t get along with flowers. He had an immediate mental vision of a petite Asian girl wielding a hoe as flowers hissed at her from a neat flower bed. It was so real to him that he longed for his sketch book and pencils. “Izzy is my book bag lying around anywhere?” he asked, all the pensive pity for himself seeming to drain away. He was pretty sure he could put it down on paper as long as he focused and remembered the positions of where he started things.
“I have never been very emotional, but I think that has changed,” Saint admitted, fairly sure he would cry if he went to the memorial. “The thought of losing either one of the twins made me rather irrational yesterday. I just wanted to stop them before they could hurt someone I cared about, but instead I put them in more danger because they wanted to help and then I made it so I will be useless in the future. I have always taken care of them and now I will be the one needing to be cared for…” His voice faded away as he realized what he was sharing and how Izzy couldn’t possibly care about his guilt. He took a deep breath and changed the subject.
“Our mom models some and when she isn’t she works at the cosmetic counter at a department store. We do okay even if she doesn’t work, but she likes to keep busy and keep up with fashion and stuff. She was born in Finland and we have lots of family there. We go there every few years to visit,” Saint said, trying to take both of their minds off his previous out burst.
“Our dad on the other hand lives in Spain on his family’s ranch. They breed horses, Andalusians, really beautiful. We go see him every summer and every other Christmas. It is very different, but good in its own way,” he said, not sure how to describe it.
“Jandro, he is the center of the universe… at least in his own mind. He is very pretty and he is not old enough yet to realize that pretty is not everything. The rest of us just have to wonder why God did not wish to bless us that way,” Saint said with a grin.
“Lia… she is a little earth mother. She would bring home everyone that hurts if she could. She wants to learn the secrets of the universe so that she can help everyone,” Saint said, his smile turning more tender. He thought her beliefs were flakey but he knew her heart was good and he loved her dearly.
Saint put the flowers in the vase again and sighed. “Now you know everyone,” he said with a chuckle.
