It was quite amusing to Tyler, the way he and Bree acted towards one another. More specifically, the way she acted towards him. It was quite different to the shy, awkward girl of yesterday, but how much of it was an act, and how much was a permanent change due to the passing of her father, he did not know. He didn’t really care though. He did his duty, he figured, and he was helping now, being a friend and whatnot. So, he wouldn’t delve into anything too personal, it wasn’t his way after all.
“Not my Maggy.” he emphasised, trying to seem put out by Bree referring to the girl like that, even if he wasn’t. He didn’t need anyone, and especially not Sloane, thinking he had gone soft now, that wouldn’t do. He hadn’t gone soft at all, it was just a momentary lapse of judgement, he was putting it down to. After all, there was simply no reason for him to pay more attention to the girl than he paid any other woman. In fact, really, he should be less interested in Maggy. She wasn’t like the women he normally went for, didn’t have that kind of beauty, wouldn’t be a proper date to one of his father’s parties. And yet he was finding himself absorbed by Maggy Veloz. Very frustrating.
It was some effort to keep his eyes on Bree and not pull away to look for Maggy, but that wasn’t part of the plan, wouldn’t do any good. So he continued to keep his focus completely on the redhead, amused by her actions. She was good at this, if he hadn’t known better, he would have believed she often made other women jealous like this. “Maggy attend your party? Now, that would be very interesting.” he mused.
On one hand, having Maggy there would surely dampen his chances with any other girls in attendance, after all, it was one thing to make her jealous, but to openly sleep with another girl, to her knowledge, would wreck any chances he had in the first place. But still, he couldn’t deny, it would be promising, especially if she came because she knew he would be there. He couldn’t imagine her being friends with anyone else who would show. “Alright, have one of them extend an invitation.” he agreed. “Are you sure this would work? Not make her lose interest, seeing you here with me?”

Bree on the other hand was really enjoying herself. Tyler really was the perfect foil for her at this stage of her vague plans. Los Angeles was going to discover that Aubrey Marcus was no longer a non-entity… a punching bag. If it helped Tyler get the girl who had somehow found her way under the young man’s skin, well then that was a good thing. She really liked her male friend and she liked it when her friends were happy.
“Well we will just refer to her as M for now, for discretion’s sake,” she said, amused at how Tyler was so determined to keep himself isolated. Personally she blamed his father, Bree had personal experience as how the creatures could warp your point of view. She wondered if Tyler would be pleased or horrified to know he was turning into a carbon-copy of his dad.
Letting her fingers walk along the edge of his sharply defined jaw line, Bree smiled up at him. “Even M might find herself amused, there will be plenty of entertainments there. I am even going to have a haunted house and a psychic since paranormal things are typical at sleepovers. Maybe you can have tarot cards read with M. I am sure the reader could be bribed to make your reading interesting,” she suggested with an impish grin as she reached up and kissed him lightly at the corner of his mouth, wondering what M would think of that.
“Judge for yourself. I think today you have gotten more concentrated interest from M than you have in the last two weeks. Girls are more likely to notice a taken man… it shows he has qualities worth cultivating. A bachelor is a mystery. He might or might not be worth the effort And… more than likely has flaws that keep him single,” Bree said, all the while gazing lovingly at him. “If M liked me that might keep her from trying to poach, but I am a cheerleader… which mean I am probably a bitch in the eyes of her crowd.”

Tyler wondered if he should be even just the slightest bit worried, the way Bree was smiling at him. But he had to remind himself that while the two women were the closest friends, she, thank god, was not Sloane. As much as he enjoyed that woman, he still had to be wary around her to some extent, every male, and a great number of women would be wise to. Whereas he doubted that Bree could have another aim in mind, one for her own amusement. Though she was surprisingly conniving already, he quite admired that.
He tilted his head just a little to brush his lips against Bree’s fingertips when they skirted his jaw. Well, he wasn’t sure if this plan of hers and Sloane’s would work, he guessed he didn’t know women as well as he thought, but regardless he was quite enjoying their little scheme. There was something to be said for having the company of a beautiful women. And he even enjoyed it when Bree spoke, that was a nice change.
“A fake tarot reading? Well, I’m not normally one to go for such gibberish, but Ma...M doesn’t have to know that. I like how your mind works Bree.” he chuckled, warming more to the notion of Maggy attending. If his fairer friends could convince her to come. Knowing them though, there was not much they couldn’t do. And it was amusing, wondering what the unlikely focus of his attention would wear to the slumber party.
The kiss made him grin more, but Tyler behaved himself like the gentleman he occasionally was, staying still and not attempting to lengthen the kiss. There was always time for such things, and better circumstances, as well.
At the suggestion he judge himself, Tyler risked a glance in Maggy’s direction, to see the girl not looking at him. And it made him smile, his focus turning back to Bree. “Now, I could be wrong, we could just not have caught her attention, but I think M is trying not to look out way. You might just be onto something with this taken man theory. I’m not quite sure if she has it in her to poach, if she could be so bold, but I would certainly enjoy that.”
“You would be right about that, I believe. I’ve always been quite partial to cheerleaders myself though. Something about those short skirts.” he smirked. He took her hand in one of his own without any thought, it was a move he had practiced with dozens of women before, to show interest, whether or not it was feigned. Linking fingers with her, he allowed a not so usual sombre expression to grace his attractive features. “Are you sure you are alright Bree?” He was much more comfortable with leaving Sloane to be the shoulder to cry on if Bree required one, he would much rather be a distraction, something to amuse her and keep her mind off things. But, she was a friend, and given yesterday’s events, felt it was his duty to ask.

Bree grinned when he complimented her thought processes, “I suppose I can be tricky when I want to,” she admitted, though it was something newly discovered in herself. Before the shootings she would never have defied her father or even made friends with a boy, let alone one like Tyler.
She had never felt anything like that kiss. Her heart was beating widely with fear and something else that made it feel completely different. I was only that Tyler didn’t press for anything more that helped her maintain control, not scream and cower like a complete idiot. She took a deep breath and gave him a shaky smile. “I believe that I am going to be fine, Tyler. Thanks to you,” she said, gratitude shining in her eyes. A screech in the speakers made her glance to the stage where the Principal was tapping on the microphone on the podium. “I think they are about to start.”
