The tears came, and Hannah couldn’t do anything about it. She was so worried for everyone at the school, including herself. How many people had gotten shot? She knew there was one for sure, she had seen it. She didn’t even like to see gore in movies, so seeing it in real life had been especially horrifying. She couldn’t get the image of the blood spurting from the girl’s shoulder out of her head. It was different than how a movie portrayed it. Similar, and yet wholly and terrifyingly different.
The other girl wasn’t much help. She seemed more focused on her smoke than on being concerned for Hannah’s well-being. Maybe that was her way of coping with the horror that was taking place around them, but Hannah thought that was stupid. Couldn’t let Ryo know that, though.
“I’m from Nashville. Well, I was born in Georgia but I grew up in Nashville. Are you from around here?” The last thing Hannah wanted to talk about was her mom, or her dad for that matter. Step-dad. No, Dad. “Thank you for talking to me. I know I’m just a ball bag here.” She tried to smile, but it seemed very half-hearted, so she settled for wiping some of the tears away.

"Nashville huh," Ryo began, "One of my favorite artist lives out there, Conway Twitty." The girl smiled though it had been a poor attempt at one, "I was born in Hawai'i but my dad thought we should move to California, he had a big dream of being someone oneday, and I've been living here ever since." Edmund Ames had loved the idea of creating his own authentic Hawaiian restuarant, despite being pureblooded French, but the idea had quickly faultered after a two years. The interest rate was much to high on his meager earnings.
"Don't worry, I'm not judging you," In a way she hadn't but for a girl from Nashville this probably wasn't what she had expected from California. It was a state of crushed dreams and failed attempts at becoming rich. The miners had learned their lesson the hard way while their decesendents hadn't realized that the gold had dried up years before. Ryo loved California for all its faults but Hawai'i had been her home and on those lonesome drives, with her parents car, she'd dreamt of walking the beaches of Waimeia, "Do you hear that?" The faint sound of sirens could be heard in the background and it was a sign that everything was coming to an end. They'd be able to run out of the restroom and Ryo could almost taste the fresh air until someone ran into the restroom. A girl with black hair and into an empty stall. Ryo pushed herself off the wall when the sounds of the girl heaving her stomach into the toilet drowned out the faint sirens.
"I think this is our cue to go," With that another person ran in and took residence in the next available toilet. The once empty hallway had erupted with students and staff running around while some stood stoic, afraid it was just a ruse to get them out in the open. A female teacher was calling for the students to be calm while another kept her students locked in the room. The same male teacher that Ryo had first seen was quietly talking to his class, sweat falling down his brow, as the cries of a group of girls filled the hallway. Ryo looked around for anyone she knew but with the chaos erupting it was hard to tell which blur looked familiar. Police officers entered from the left side of the hall urging students to return to their classrooms. Two paramedics were seen with the police officers as they tended to a body on the ground. Ryo turned away-afraid that it was someone she knew.
