Shelby tossed her long blonde hair behind her shoulder as she walked into the cafeteria. She was dressed flawlessly in a sapphire colored wrap dress and black kitten heels. On her wrist she wore one simple diamonique bracelet that she'd swear to anyone who asked was real diamonds and in that hand she carried a plastic container of salad that she'd picked up off campus before school. Shelby wouldn't be caught dead eating cafeteria food. No way, no how. As she sauntered through the room she stopped to speak with a few people, making nasty comments to the people she considered lower than her on the popularity charts and kissing up to a few of the older girls. But ultimately she sat down at a table on her own, sitting up straight as she scanned the room for anyone who might sit with her. The problem with being on top was that it was lonely. She was always trying to hang out with older people who somewhat accepted her but weren't ready to call her up and invite her out or make a date to go get a mani/pedi or anything like that. Shelby needed friends her own age. A popular clique of sophomores and freshmen who could stay loyal to her when she took over the school next year. There were no outstanding junior girls who seemed like they'd take over. Next year was Shelby's turn, but she'd have to lay down the bricks this year to make it happen. Now all she needed to do was find the right people.... She emptied the plastic pouch of vinaigrette dressing over her salad and mixed it around with her plastic fork as she scanned the cafeteria once more, this time looking for allies. Okay...looking for people she could bully into following her around and treating her like she was hot shit.... Baby steps. Minions could become friends...right? As she continued to scan the students, mentally rating their outfits and hairstyles, she didn't notice someone approaching her table. Tag Any

The Goodwin family vacation had gone over slightly but not enough that Xavier missed that much school. He hated to admit it but he actually had missed being there during the summer, who knew who would be back and who would be gone by the fall.
He had gotten a little muscle over the summer, which looked hot in the tight black tshirt he had on, hair was combed back and set so it wouldn't move in the wind and still his face remained clean shaven.
He entered the cafeteria with a bag from McDonald's which his father's personal assistant (a petite red head that Xavier drooled over) had brought to him. Xavier had gotten hooked on the McRib when in Texas and wanted it every chance he got.
With his food and drink (which was sweet tea) he scouted for a place to sit when his eyes were drawn to a blond at a table. He knew who it was.
He grinned slyly.
He crept over to the table, quietly set his things down and tickled Shelby in the ribs.
"Heya blondie!"

At the feel someone's hand on her, Shelby jumped, almost violently! Who would touch her like that?! She outwardly sighed when she saw none other than Xavier Goodwin standing by her table with a McDonalds bag and a stupid grin on his face. Okay...if Shelby was honest he actually kind of looked good (sans the fast food bag of course). He'd bulked up...in a good way and was still tan from the summer sun. But Shelby would never admit these things, just like she'd never admit that the witty banter back and forth that they tended to have...fighting usually, was actually a bit fun, but of course, all that was completely off the record...so far off the record that she'd never told a single person and probably never would.
Shelby honestly did not know what happened the night that Xavier had gotten her drunk. What did happen was she'd kissed him good night before stumbling back into her house. But she had blacked out because the last thing she could remember was sitting at the bar and the next thing she'd know was that she was in her bed (extremely hung over) still dressed in her clothes from the night before. And no, Shelby had never asked Xavier to fill in the details. And if she had, well, even if he told her the truth about what actually happened, she wouldn't have believed him.
So now, she simply glared at him and pressed her lips together, making her I'm annoyed at you face. "One," she said, holding up one finger, "what the hell do you think you're doing touching me?" she asked, "And two," she continued, holding up two fingers now, "why are you talking to me?" she asked, shaking her head slightly and widening her eyes for emphasize, "And three, why the hell would you touch me?!" she repeated the first one, this time her voice squeaking into a bit of a whine. "Seriously, are you retarded, cause I'm kind of starting to think you are," she quipped, not caring if she was being totally un-PC.

He couldn't help but to keep the smirk on his face. "Well it's good to see you too!" He retorted, folding his arms over his chest, tucking his hands under each of his biceps.
The look on her face and the near squeak almost had him laughing out loud. "I was just funnin' with you. No harm done." As if that excuse was going to solve everything. And even though he wouldn't say it out loud, she had grown over the summer into a very fine young woman. He knew there would be other guys coming around that he would have to try and get intimidating with but at the same time no let it on to Shelby what was going on.
He held a finger up to her lips. "Hey shhh shhh, no need for that kind of talk, after all there could be special needs kids around here."

He just kept smiling. Man, he knew how to push Shelby's buttons. Although she supposed that she was usually the one playing his part. The one in control of the situation...the one pushing everyone else around and making sure to get her way. With Xavier it was the opposite. He was always somehow in control...ever time he talked to her he seemed to have the upper hand and Shelby couldn't stand it.
She simply glared at him as he teased her acting like it was all no big deal. He was just joking...right. "Still, no one touches me without my permission and I don't believe I gave it to you," she said haughtily. "Even if you were just 'funnin'," she added, emphasizing the word 'funnin' as if to mock him.
When he shushed her she just rolled her eyes. "Thank you PC police. Sorry, if I don't sugar coat things, I never claimed that people liked me for my shining personality," she jibed. After all, it was true. Shelby was a bitch and she was completely fine admitting so. No one had ever climbed their way to the top by being nice, and if they thought they could, they were seriously naive. As far as Shelby was concerned, everyone had a motive. What Xavier's was, she had no idea. It was probably just to annoy her to compliancy or something, which was never going to happen by the way. Shelby was never going to let him win! Now all she had to do was work on getting less flustered every single time he baited her.

Shelby was too dang cute when she was angry about something and as long as that kept up, Xavier knew to keep going and push her buttons every chance he got.
"I seem to remember you said you loved feeling my hands on you that night we went drinking. You seemed to enjoy yourself but I was a gentleman, kept you dress and made sure you got home safely." He knew that was a bold faced lie but what she didn't know/remember couldn't hurt him. "And that's between you and me."
"See, that's what I like about you. Ready to rip into anyone who gets in your way. I'll give you fair warning though, going it alone can get treacherous and can come back to bite you in the butt and big time. Make sure you have some allies on your side."

Shelby's face dropped when Xavier started saying things about what had happened the night he'd gotten her drunk. She didn't remember much of that night and for the most part tended to take the ignorance is bliss attitude toward it all, deciding that it was better not to know. But him bringing things up...things that she couldn't remember...well, frankly that scared her. "You're lying," she accused. "I'd never let you touch me, no matter how drunk I was," she said to him pointedly. But deep down, she wasn't so sure. She knew very well that she didn't hate him as much as she put on but still...would have she let her guard down that much?
"Um yeah," she quipped, "advice from you...not exactly anything I need or was looking for," she said, as she uncrossed then recrossed her legs. "Plus, you're one to talk," she said. "No one likes you because you're a total creeper. I have friends. I am a cheerleader after all," she said, almost defensively. "Whatever, l don't have to prove anything to you," she informed him, but it was clear she was still bothered by him, no matter how hard she pretended not to be.

"You can't prove it one way or the other." Xavier smirked, not knowing how that actually sounded out loud. "I was lucky enough to get you into your place without your parents finding out." He shook a finger at her as if he were scolding her. "You should learn to hold your booze better." If admission was paid, it was worth it.
"So in other words people only like you because your a cheerleader? Sounds rather shallow to me." That was worth a point anyway. "I have friends, but I'm much more selective." He leaned back slightly putting his weight on one foot. "You should really consider yourself lucky that I consider you with the rest of my colleagues after all you haven't quite hit the junior status yet."

"Whatever, I was fine," Shelby insisted even though she knew very well that she hadn't been. It had been her second time drinking after all and the first time she'd only had one glass of wine. She hadn't had any alcohol since that night, but she thought maybe she should. She did need to learn to handle it better, not like she was going to give Xavier the satisfaction of admitting that.
"Um, I made friends through cheerleading, there's kind of a difference," she said. "Where are your friends, cause I don't see them." Okay, maybe Shelby was alone too and maybe she wasn't best friends with all the older cheerleaders but she was friendly enough with them that she could walk over and start chatting them up and probably have enough to go on to converse with them throughout the rest of the lunch period and put Xavier in his place. So, she had that, which she felt gave her an edge.
"Oh, am I supposed to be honored or something?" Shelby asked, giving him a look when he mentioned that she wasn't even a junior yet. So what, she still hung out with the older people enough... Sure, her brother had had a bit to do with that, but so what. Shelby would take what she could get.

"You poor delusional girl, you just keep telling yourself that." Xavier nodded as if he agreed with her. "Although I know its tough starting out, unsure how much is enough and all that jazz." It did help that he had the watered down if nil on booze that night too.
"My friends are around, but I can see them anytime I only get to tease you on rare occasions." Xavier replied matter of factly.
"You should be flattered, not often that a girl who is a lower class gets to join the Xavier Goodwin fan club." He winked at her. "Not to worry though I won't forget about you when I make my millions."
That was when the bell rang. "Awww lunch is over and here my sandwich went uneaten, ah well, snack during class. See ya blondie!" With that he headed off with a huge smug grin on his face.
