"Where in New York?" New York was a coastal state, although Julia didn't know if there were any beaches to be found anywhere along it, but she still thought it odd to be on the coast and have never seen the ocean. Not that she spent much of her own time taking in the local scenery, so it wasn't that unlikely that someone else would ignore his own hometown's charm.
"I didn't go to the camp out." She admitted, "My brother did, though. You say it was fun? Nothing strange happened, did it?" She pried, wondering if maybe she could find some clues through Ashley. Of course, for all she knew whatever it was had happened on Sunday when the teen father wasn't there. Or maybe it was something that nobody else would know about. But it was very vexing, not knowing, so she would be nosy where she could.
"No, no, we won't impose," She assured him. "You won't really want us hanging around tonight, I'm sure. Just we can swing by and give you holiday cheer. Or something like that." And that was assuming she could actually get anyone to come. She didn't see why they wouldn't, though, she would have known if either of the guys had dates and as far as she knew neither of them was so much as interested in anyone. The only hitch she could forsee was if Jere decided to continue being...distant. If she had to force her brother to a party -- even if it was only a three or four person one -- that would be an unexpected turn of events indeed!
"Social lives are overrated, anyway, you don't want one of those." Julia shrugged, "You could always have people over and just watch kid movies all day." She suggested. Okay, she really didn't know how you could juggle raising a child, school work, football, AND a social life. That seemed a bit much, too many competing demands. That he had only had to give up one of those things seemed almost amazing to the brunette girl, she was sure that she would be unable to continue with most of her hobbies if she had a child now, because it seemed nearly impossible in her mind to both achieve high scores and raise a child properly if she were also trying to play her violin or video games.

"We lived just outside the city, not quite as glamourous as the upper east side, and certainly not as annoying as life is portrayed in Gossip girl." Ashley said to her with a smile. "My old school was a little smaller than this one, but it was a good homely school. The first few weeks here were lonely, I didn't know anyone here, and I'd moved away from all of my friends, well the four that stuck by me after Kai entered my life, I guess they aren't your real friends if they run when you hit hard times." Ashley said to her with a smie. "I still stay in contact with them, unlike most jocks I can touch a computer without breaking it." Ashley said with a chuckle.
"Um not that I know of is the answer to your question, I know we had some eye popping moments at the ball the night before, but the rest of it is pretty normal." Ashley said to her. "You and your brother are close I take it." Ashley said. "You know life is to short, you should just ask him, the worst he can do is tell you to mind your own business." Ashley said to her.
"Tonight I was planning on a movie fest, me some horror and or comedy not necessarily in that order, pizza and slouching my way through the night, hell if his awake your likely meet the little blighter." Ashley said to her. "If he is awake it'll be bambi, so I may not have a lot of street credibility, his to young for the new stuff but the old cartoons are classics." Ashley said with a grin.
"You say that now, but come tell me that when you don't have one any more for what ever reason." Ashley said. "You miss what you don't have anymore, trust me on that, I love Kai but as a seventeen year old single father, I have so many regrets its not funny." Ashley admitted. "So what about you, your the mystery girl, I've been talking about me all this time, and I have this beautiful girl standing in front of me who has told me nothing about herself beyond the fact that you have a brother, who may or may not be your age, and who probably has something to hide by the sound of things." Ashley said to her giving her a wicked smile.

"I've been trying to ask him," Julia grumbled. "He's being coy. But something happened, I know it did, he wouldn't keep avoiding answering otherwise." Not that Jeremy was ever serious, he made a point to joke about everything so sometimes it was hard to know when something really bothered him until he was punching somebody in the face. She was sure that something was up, though, he couldn't fool her with his clown routine. At least, he couldn't fool her with it forever. Maybe sometimes she was too involved in her own problems to notice that he was using humor to hide his insecurities, but when she bothered to pay attention it was obvious. So now that she had a friend to goof off with, which took her mind off Wynn, she noticed that there was something wrong. A very vague undefined something.
"Bambi is good!" She laughed, "I'm not just saying that cause my brother works at Disney," She added with a grin. "Hey, who needs street cred? I've gotten addicted to High School Musical recently, a friend forced me to watch it and I was like...woah, this is good! So I have zero street cred now, either."
"Okay, maybe socializing is kind of fun," She admitted with a dramatic sigh, "I'm just getting a social life now, though, maybe I somehow traded mine for yours." She suggested, "No, that can't be right, you've been missing yours for two years, I only got mine last month." Maybe most people would not admit that they had until recently lacked any real social life, but it was true and Ashley had admitted his own less than pleasant past to her, so she might as well be candid with him as well.
She turned pink when he called her beautiful and mystery girl. She did not think she warranted those kinds of comments, she was just a normal girl. Well, a geeky girl who obsessed over Tolkien and played video games and wore pink legwarmers to school. That was still not the sort of girl who was usually called beautiful or mysterious, unless at a convention full of other people with similar geeky interests.
"Jere and I are twins," She informed the boy, "he's not allowed to have secrets from me!! I don't have any secrets from him!" She huffed, crossing her arms. "It's a rule! No secrets!! He' s being mean by not telling." She narrowed her eyes. She would drag his secret out of him somehow.
"There's really not much to tell about me, I'm kind of boring," She confessed, not sure what exactly she was supposed to say. Was her introduction supposed to include that she played the violin, could write her name in two different modes of Sindarin, her closest friends until recently were her twin and her guild on World of Warcraft and she was currently reading The Kalevala? That was a sure way to scare off everyone, she was sure. Except Connor, who was incredibly cool and somehow seemed not to mind that she was a huge geek. He was kind of a geek himself, though not in exactly the same way.
It was too bad he was gay. Or maybe it was a good thing, that meant she couldn't use him to forget about Wynn, they could just relax and be friends. Having just friends was unusual for Julia, but in a good way. She usually just hung out with Jeremy and whoever was at the parties he drug her too. And since she liked Wynn he didn't count, because that was always full of awkward attempts to get his attention. And most WoW players didn't believe that there were girls on the internet, so she had stopped trying to convince them she wasn't a boy. Her Guild knew, because sometimes they played in voice chat, but that had been a fun shock to most of them, finding out she was not lying to them about her gender.
