When Kayla announced of her brother's return, Amy smiled even though it kind of sucked that she didn't have any siblings to look forward to coming back home from college. It could get really lonely especially with her dad gone most of the time. "That's cool." She responded.
Amy sat back down, making space for Kayla. As she spoke with Evan while still standing up, Amy wondered if she should grab the ball but Kayla did it for her and tried to score. When she made it the second time, Amy smiled widely. She clapped and gave out a whoop. When Kayla complimented Amy rather subtly, the blond athlete blushed furiously. It was one thing to get a compliment from a boy but it was another ball park when it came from a girl. And a fellow athlete at that.
Kayla's question brought a shrug from Amy. "Just chilling. I just invited Evan to a basketball game. We're playing against the Damon West Academy. I heard their coach is a former champion for a female basketball team so...if we beat them, we're solid."
Without warning, Evan started dribbling across the court and doing a slam dunk, something Amy hadn't expected but she clapped hard when the ball shot cleanly through. "Evan that's awesome!" Amy grinned, clapping wildly and laughing when he said he was too old. "You need a knee surgery grandpa?" She teased him. "And you wouldn't even know what to do with yourself if one of us beat you..." Amy laughed. She turned her attention to Kayla. "You should come to the game too. Then we could all hang out after. What do you think?"

Kayla smiled when they cheered for her after she made her shot. She wasn't used to people cheering for her since there usually wasn't too many cheering at track meets except by people's families. Track just wasn't a sport that really brought out crowds of her peers but Kayla was kind of okay with that. She would have just been embarrassed otherwise. As Amy seemed to be for some reason, as she was blushing, but then Kayla reasoned that she was probably just overheated from playing before or something.
Evan seemed pretty nice, very energetic and enthusiastic. Kayla wasn't quite sure how to take to that since she tended to be very quiet but she smiled and nodded along, deciding that his enthusiasm was probably a good thing. He took the ball from her and Kayla sort of walked backward, watching him as she made herself to the bench where she sat down next to Amy to watch. Her eyes widened as she watched him slam dunk. Amy cheered and Kayla clapped along too. "That was pretty awesome," she said, still surprised that she'd just witnessed that. It was rare to see slam dunks in high school games let alone from someone that didn't really play much anymore. "I bet if they saw that at school they'd be recruiting you for the basketball team," she said, adding with a laugh, "aside from the whole old man thing..."
It was then that Amy invited her to attend the game she'd been talking about. The brunette sophomore had to admit, she was a bit surprised that the older girl was inviting her. She'd sort of assumed earlier when she'd mentioned calling her that she was just saying that to be nice. In fact the last time they'd run into one another and made plans, Kayla hadn't been surprised when there was no call afterward. She thought it had been that sort of thing where you said you'd make plans but never intended to follow through. Kayla of course had wanted to follow through but hadn't because she figured Amy didn't actually want to hang out with her. But now she was inviting her to the game and to hang out afterward. "Yeah, sure, that sounds like a lot of fun," she said. "When's the game?" she asked, pushing some stray hairs behind her ear. She'd have to keep it cool though. Kayla was finding it hard to hang around girls so much anymore as she was finding herself attracted to them...something she didn't exactly want anyone to know. It was due to this that she was keeping to herself more and more lately. But she really did want to be friends with Amy since aside from Kayla's whole confused sexuality thing, it seemed that she and Amy had a lot in common. The fact that Amy might be having the same confusions, didn't even cross Kayla's mind.
"So...what do you guys want to do now?" she asked. "We can try that game of two on one, although I think Amy and I would kill you, Evan," she teased, "or we could actually go and get some bagels," she reasoned. "I could really go for either. Carbs are so good after a run," she said.
