"I'm pleased as punch to meet you too, Chris." She had to laugh at herself for being such a goof. Amy nodded as he talked about his love for the water. She understood that. She wasn't all that crazy about water herself but she understood his passion for something other than himself. It was pretty refreshing to find a guy who did so. And the mention of orcas piqued her interest. She was fond of sea animals especially the orca. She found them hauntingly beautiful. She liked watching documentaries about them on National Geographic and Animal Planet. Not that she was going to mention any of that to the guys or the girls on her team. They'd probably pummel her for it.
"The sea's pretty cool. I surf on occasion when the tide's high. I don't dive though. I can't breathe through my mouth." She confessed that little small tidbit eventhough it was kind of useless. "I do swim though and when I said I'm a sports enthusiast, it's just for American football, which is the American way of calling rugby by the way. Oh and basketball and soccer which is actually football. Well they're not exclusively called those but you know, the English call it footy for a reason and come on...England's the best."
Amy didn't hear what the boys said either but that was only because of Chris' intense staring. The boy needs to invest in some sunglasses. Amy was just not comfortable being stared at. When they finally arrived at her locker, Amy took out the books she needed for the day before turning to attempt to stare the boy down. Or up, since he was about three heads taller than her. "Your knowledge of football is zero? Like...nada? Like...um..." she stopped talking and held up her hand to form an 'O' with her forefinger and thumb. "At least tell me you can differentiate the types of balls." She was going to have to educate this boy on it if he said no!

"Surfing is good," he agreed. Then again, if it was connected to the water then ANYthing was good in Christophe's eyes. "You play a lot of sports," he commented. "For myself I am useless at all of those ones you mentioned.
He leaned back against a locker as Amy gathered her books, amused when she spun around and held his gaze with her own. He half smiled. "Nada," he repeated. "I am a complete novice but I do know tennis is played with slightly smaller balls than football. Oh... and rugby uses a pointed sort of ball." Ok, so he was playing on his lack of knowledge outrageously but only in the hopes of making Amy smile. Christophe had a feeling that didn't happen often enough! Laughing at armpit farts didn't count.
"I admit I know a little more than I am making out but... American football and baseball are both complete mysteries. I know rugby and I also know cricket... Are they similar to those first two? The balls look the same and while baseball is in a square shape pitch and cricket isn't the rules are perhaps similar? You strike the ball and run... right?" Sounded the same to him but as he'd played neither he was hardly in a position to make a judgement call like that.

"Surfing's pretty awesome." Amy shrugged. She liked to surf on occasion. It wasn't as big a hobby as basketball and football of course, but it was exhilarating and scary at the same time. You were in the hands of a very fickle mistress that is Mother Nature and at any second you could just topple over and possibly drown if you didn't know what you were doing. It got Amy's adrenaline juices pumping for sure but the joy of being able to get consecutive jump shots and free throws was something Amy enjoyed above all else.
"I play a lot of sports because my dad used to be a jock. And it's just been me and him so you can understand how important it is for him to pass down the knowledge." Amy admitted without much thought to it. She had grown up pretty much loving every second of the time spent with her dad at football games and basketball practices. Her childhood memories were filled with awesome stuff except the whole growing up without a mother bit. That she could have done without.
Amy laughed at the boy's lack of knowledge about sports, even if it was to make fun of himself. Shaking her head, she patted Chris' shoulder condescendingly. "One of these days, dude you're going to follow me to a rugby game. It's a gentleman's sport you'll love it." Amy nodded confidently.
"Well, actually they're not the same. Sure the fundamental rules for those two sports are the same but so is every other game. You have a ball and you run. But baseball and cricket are two totally different games." Amy responded, shaking her head to make the point. And as she launched into the rules of the games, she wondered if Christophe was getting any of it. And if he was really interested in all of this. Because if he wasn't, he had to be the most patient guy ever. And if he was then he was in for a real treat.
"And so really, cricket is way better than baseball if you ask me," she concluded her crash course with a shrug.

"A jock?" Christophe hadn't encountered that word before. "Does that mean to like sports?" Amy nodded and he filed the word away in his memory banks in case he'd ever need it again. "As for following you to a rugby game..." He grinned and performed a small - if formal - bow. "I would count it as an honour, Amy Baker," he teased. "I have heard it is played a lot in France... just never found the time to actually watch it in action. "Cricket I can understand but baseball...?" He shook his head. "Bases loaded...? With what? It makes no sense to me!"
He turned to unlock his own locker that was situated opposite Amy's. A lucky turn of events indeed. He rummaged for the books he'd need for that morning. "I am really glad we met, Amy," he said with a friendly smile. "Even if you though I was joking with you. And I like to hear you laugh like that. My goal will now be to make you laugh more often... and not at any noises I can make with various parts of my body," he added with a grin. He had a feeling this was the start of a good - if somewhat unexpected - friendship. What better way to start the day than that?

[one more! ^^]
It was pretty surprising that a guy really didn't know a lot about sports but then there's always a first time for everything. Amy shrugged and nodded when asked what a jock meant and she couldn't help but laugh when Chris bowed slightly and called her by her full name. "Wait lemme program your number in my phone so I can text you when to meet. Do you have a girlfriend? Psh, of course you do. Bring her along! It might not be the most romantic thing to do but come on it's rugby! You'll probably score man points for being there for her to hold everytime someone gets slammed real bad." She laughed as she took her phone out. After Chris typed in his number in her phone, she saved it under Frenchie.
When he turned and opened his locker, Amy raised an eyebrow. "Oh...your locker's here. Neat! We're practically locker buddies! How bout that?" She grinned, pointing to their two lockers in amusement. In response to his comment about loading base, she laughed again and launched into another explanation. She felt pretty smart telling a guy the rules of baseball. Baseball! He really was a foreigner. "I'm glad to have met you too, even though you are such a noob at sports." At the question of what a noob was, Amy explained and patted Chris' shoulder in mock condescension. "It's okay...by the time we finish watching rugby, you're gonna be a pro. Well, not as good as me but you'll get there..." she chuckled at her lameness. Why does she even open her mouth.
Amy chuckled once more when Chris admitted to what his goal was going to be. "I really don't mind fart jokes!" she exclaimed as the bell rang. "Ah! I'm late! So are you! Okay I'll see you around. Bye!" Amy held one hand up as a wave and rushed off to her first class. Okay so being just friends with a guy wasn't too bad. At least she gets to show off her awesome knowledge of sports! Today is turning out to be pretty good!
