Zach had to go to be checked out by his doctor before he went back to school. The people in the medical building all stared as he waited. It wasn’t often that you saw a boy with the word ‘FUCK’ emblazoned in red bloody letters on his forehead. As he was stuck in a wheelchair as well, it rather made him stand out. He was rather hoping that the doctor would find a reason he couldn’t return to school yet, but there was no such luck, he was okayed to return to everything except gym and baseball. He was missing Home Ec which was the only class that made going to school worthwhile any more.
They piled back in Zach’s van and drove back to drop his mother off at home before continuing on to school. Kendall helped him in the parking lot and walked with him inside. It was impossible to pretend no one noticed him. It was actually worse than he had expected, some were actually pointing. His hair flopped over the offensive four-letter word on his forehead so he figured out it must be something else.
Kendall gasped and turned Zach’s chair so he could see the Glee Club poster he was featured on with Jefferson. It felt as if his uncle had left a knife embedded in his chest and now someone was twisting it to reopen the wound. His first instinct was to flee, but he was done with that kind of response. So he headed to the cafeteria to get some tea to soothe his rattled nerves. Coming back from the register, his first sight was Jefferson sitting with a new guy that was kind of cute in a semi-nerdy manner. The knife twisted again, pulling a gasp from his weakened lungs. Luckily it didn’t take much energy to steer the chair and he was able to escape and head to the home ec room where he could sip his tea and try to calm down.
