Jem sat on the side of her bed. She had been in that position for most of the night. After an amazing night with Otep. Dinner, dessert, the..ring. Which she held in her hand. staring it. Rolling it over and over in her fingers as she stared at it. Otep was really serious. She was...really serious. She had asked her twice now. She had gone out and gotten a ring. That was SERIOUS! And it was a beautifiul ring too. So beautifiul. Nothing too much. Was she insane for considering this? She was so young, they were both so young. They were...both...girls too. That didn't matter. That didnt' mater near as much as how young they were. But she loved her. She loved Otep. She couldn't imagine being with anyone else. She fianlly put the ring down long enough to grab a shower. She was going to try to get to school early so she could find Otep. Give her an answer. That she would hopefully have by the time she got there. So, she showered. Got herself looking all cute. She grabbed her things and the ring, and headed out the door. Otep had gotten ready for school that morning with so many things on her mind. What was Jem going to say?? If she said yes she would be the happiest girl in the world. If she said no -- she didn't even wanna think about that... She put on a black bikini and a black spaghetti strapped short dress. She threw her sunglasses on and a oair of black flip flops, jumped in her car and took off. She got to the school and sat in the parking lot on her car sketching the scene in front of her. ((Otep's Outfit of the day)) Jemima arrived at school, parking her neon. She got out grabbing her bag. The ring in her pocket for the moment. So she didn't lose it. She was dressed in a halter top, skinny jeans and heels. Her hair curled and half of it pulled back. She looked around a moment until she spotted the girl she was looking for. She smiled to herself walking up to her. "Good mornin'..." Otep smiled at her when she saw her. "Morning." she smiled as she closed her sketch book and threw it in her car. She went over and hugged and kissed her gently. "How'd you..sleep?" Jemima hugged her back, and returned her kiss. "Sleep? What's sleep?" she asked with a smile. "Honestly, I don't think I slept at all. I was up all night...thinking about things." Otep nodded as she ran a hand through her hair. "Yeah. Me too." she said gently. She wasn't going to push her into giving her an answer. She would give it to her when she was ready to. But she was anticipating it. Patiently waiting. Jemima took Otep's hands and led back over to Otep's car. She leaned against the side of it and looked at Otep. She held onto one hand and with the other she took the ring out of her pocket. "This here..kept me up all night long." she smirked. "But I came to a decision. If this ring is going on this finger..I think it should be put there by you." she smiled, holding the ring out to Otep and holding her hand up for her to put it on her. "I love you..and I can't imagine being with anyone else." Otep's eyes lit up at that. "Really?!" she asked her. She almost tackled her, hugging her and lifting her up and spinnng around. She took the ring from her gently. She took a breath and slipped it on Jem's finger. She smiled then... sort of like a little girl who just got a pony for Christmas. "I love you Jem... my future Mrs. Shamaya." she smiled at her as she pulled her into a normal hug and kissed her passionately. She didn't expect her to say yes but, when she did, it was the greatest feeling in the world. She was now engaged to... the greatest thing to ever happen to her. ((Jem's ring))

She couldn't believe she had just said "yes". She said "yes" to Otep's proposal. There was now a ring on her finger. Not just a promise ring, but an engagement ring. She was engaged. Promised to antoher person. She had made a committment to promise to spend the rest of her life with just one person. She could not have been more excited. The feeling that rushed through her when Otep put that ring on her finger, was indescribalbe. She wrapped her arms around Otep. Hugging her, kissing her cheek, then her lips softly. She pulled back a moment to look at her. "I guess thsi means..I have to finally tell my parents." Unless she just planned on NOT wearing the engagment ring around them.
Otep looked at her and then nodded slowly. "Yeah... I guess that does it would kind of be hard not to." she told her.
Jem nodded. "Yeah..but I don't want to think about it right now." she frowned. But she would have too. May be sit her parents down at dinner and just..come clean with them. Should Otep be there? Would it be best if she wasn't?
Otep looked at Jem and kissed her gently. "Babe... I love you... and I'm here for you... if you need me to be your rock that's what I am for." she smiled at her sypathetically.
Jem took Otep's hands back in hers. Lacing their fingers together. "I know. I just haven't figured out the best way to do this yet. I know it needs to be done. I want to do it, I want to have it out there and be able to move past it. I just gotta figure out..how to do that."
Otep smiled at her gently. She knew how it was to have to hold in everything. But she also knew it was better to let everything out and get it out in the open. So she knew it was better that Jem told her parents so she didnt have to hide it. She would rather her be able to plan the wedding and have her parents come anyway. "It's all going to be ok. What if we take them out? I'll make reservations at a restaurant or something... we can tell them then... Or... if you don't want me there then I can make reservations for you guys and you can go without me."
"No..I think..I should do it at home. I don't want them freaking out in public. May be this weekend. I'll sit them down and talk with them."
Otep nodded. It's not like she had to bribe them or anything but she would like at least get on their good side. Did they have a good side? She wondered how well it would go over. Would she have to make room in her room for Jem's stuff? She had no problem taking her in but in the same token she would hate to have her relationship with her parents ruined because of her. That scared her. And it would hit her later but at this time she was more worried about Jem's feelings.
"Let's nto worry about this right now. I want this to be a good day." she smiled and gave her hands a squeeze. "It may not be as bad as I'm making it out to be."
Otep smiled at her. "Yes... then we shall enjoy the day... Mrs. Shamaya." she smiled slyly as she began to walk toward the school. Yeah she would be able to show her ring off now.
"Mrs. Shamaya?" she raised a brow. "What if I don't want your name?" she teased. "May be I like mine, and wanted YOU to take it." which wasn't really cause. Jemima..Shamaya. Sounded like the name game or something. Hmm..may be she would need to give this name thing a thought.
Otep laughed a little. Otep Norwoods?? Ok but her name was famous... at least it was beginning to be. But she guessed it wouldnt be that bad if she did end up taking Jem's name. But in the end... would Jem's family want Otep to take their last name? Otep smiled and nodded. "OK... so we'll talk about it." she told her.
May be she could get her name legally changed to just Jem. That sounded better anyway. Jem Shamaya. Yeah, that had a better ring to it. "Yeah we can talk about it. Not like we have to know by tomorrow or anything."
Otep laughed a little. "No you're right... but we would at least know by the wedding." she laughed. "So... do you want a big one or a small one?" she asked of the wedding.
"I... don't know.." She was still processing the fact that she had said yes, and that she was now a spoken for girl. She wasn't ready to start planning a wedding. She wasn't even ready to start planning her future after high school. She still had another year of that left.
Otep smiled at her. She wondered about that. A big wedding... a big lesbian wedding. That would be quite interesting. Her family was pretty small but her friends were in large quantity and she had to invite them. And Jem? Her family... her friends... oh there was a lot to plan. Otep wouldn't mind giving her ideas but in the end this was Jem's day.
After she had time to think this over, and after she had told her parents. Then she could focus on planning a wedding. She could put her whole heart and soul into it. "One step at a time. Ok."
Otep nodded. She was so excited now. So indescribably and happily excited. She didn't know if she could keep it in. When were they going to tell her family/friends? Were they going to gather everyone that would be invited and tell them together? She had so many things going through her mind now. What was she going to wear? Did Jem want her to wear a dress or a sort of tux?? Was she going to grow her hair back or was she going to keep it short? "Ok.. yeah... one step at a time." she said gently. She held her girl's hand and squeezed it gently. "I love you." she whispered.
Jem nudged her shoulder into Otep's before she lightly laid her head over on it. Lifting her eyes up to her. "Love you too." she smiled. It was funny at the role reversal here. You would have thought Jem would be the one already making plans and Otep the more reluctant one. But no. Give her some time and she'd be all about this planning thing.
Otep was a spontaneous person most of the time but when she wanted something to be perfect and she knew it was going to happen she just had to have order and plans. She knew it was going to be chaotic anyway. But she also knew that everything would be fine. "So... that ring suits you... for now." she said,
"For now?" Jem turned her head and looked Otep. "What? I think it's pefect. I absolutely love it." she held her hand up and looked at the ring. Watched the lright reflect off of it.
Otep smiled a little and nodded. "Yeah it's beautiful." she told her. But she could do better. Bigger. She was such a critic when it came to her own work. It was like she had to top everything she did with something better. Most of the time.
"Yes it is. And I love it. That's what matters." she smiled and gave the ring one more look before putting her hand back down.
Otep kissed the side of her head. "Baby you deserve the best." she told her. "The best everything. The best wedding the best reception. The best house." she told her. She was sort of brainstorming getting a house built. When she went on her next tour.
"There you go again. Don't get so far ehad of yourself. This isn't happening for a while. Like..not until I finish school. So back up. Put your cart back behind your horses and put on the breaks."
Otep laughed a little. "I know it isn't for a while but in the same token I just want everything to be perfect for you... and all ready for you so you dont have to worry about anything." she told her.
"Relax." she laughed. "It'll be perfect. Right now you need to focus on school, and your music."
Otep pulled Jem to her. "I'm sorry I'm so excited and..." she trailed off and shrugged. "Nervous." she. "No matter how far away it is I'm still shaking in my flip flops."
"You can be excited. Just...don't go stressing over things before it's necessary." Nervous? She was nervous? Yeah, so was she.
Otep smiled a little at her. "OK but... you have to remind me of that every now and then." she laughed a little.
"Oh trust me...I will." she smirked.
"Good." Otep said as she then continued walking into the school. "So look now you get to show your pretty ring off to everyone." she laughed a little. "Jemima is a woman spoken for." she smiled.
That made her laugh and smile. "You want to just broadcast it over the loudspeakers, or shout it from the rooftops may be?" she teased.
Otep lit up as if a light bulb had gone off over her head. "Oh that's a good idea!" she squeaked as she looked around. Hmm... Loud speaker or... roof?
"Don't you dare." Jem grabbed her arm. "I was joking. I will so kick your ass if you do that."
Otep laughed as she looked back at her. "Oh? You were?" she asked as if she didn't know that. "Well then..." she said crossing her arms and sticking her bottom lip out jokingly.
"Otep....Shamaya.." she sighed and rolled her eyes. "You are impossible." She gave a dramtic shake of her head, flinging her hair over her shoulder.
Otep laughed and nodded. "Yeah well... you love it." she smiled at her.
"May be I'm just that good at pretending." she smirked. "Come on. Let's get inside before we end up being late."
Otep nodded as she walked inside with her new fiancee. She loved the sound of that. Fiancee. Jem was hers. Everyone else had to back off.
"Ok..I know you're probably dying to tell someone.' she laughed. "So, pik someone. And we'll go tell one..person. For now.." Jem didn't have a lot of friends that she was all that in a rush to tell. But she knew that Otep did. She wanted her to be able to share thier good news.
"One PERSON or one GROUP of people. Like... the football team?" she grinned devlishly. "Kidding." she said. Who did she want to tell? Who was the one person she wanted to tell?
"Ok..may be I'll allow two then." she teased. "But someone who isn't going to go blabbing OUR news all over the school."
Otep lifted a brow. In that case she shouldn't tell anyone. "Honey do you know how much of this school is FILLED with blabber mouths?" she laughed. "I'll keep quiet."
"No, but you have friends who respect you, or at least fear you enough to keep their mouths shut." she laughed. "I know you're dying to tell someone. I don't want you to have to keep it a secret from everyone."
Otep smiled a little. "Well I'll think long and hard who I will tell..." she told her. She wasn't sure who at this point she could tell. Most of her friends had sort of left...
"Ok..then.' she shrugged.
Otep gave a slight squeeze to Jem's hand. "Sooooo... this is going to be so fun." she said. "Trying to keep my mouth shut." she joked.
"I bet you've told at least one may be two people before first period is even over." Because knew Otep was bursting at the seems to tell someone. Anyone. Probably strangers on teh streets.
Otep laughed at that. "No. No I wont."
"Yeah. Right. sure you won't." she rolled her eyes. "Come on..let's go somewhere besides blocking the doors."
"Why?? Everyone can go around the most perfect couple in the world and be jealous of it." Otep smiled. "And that's cuz we're better than them." she smiled. "And we're..." she paused looked around to make sure no one was coming and whispered. "We're getting married." she grinned.
"We're better than them?" She didn't know about that. They might have had something they only wished they had. But didn't necessairly mean they were better. "So, the rumor goes." she laughed.
Otep laughed at that. "Well not necessarily better but... you know... I'm a little cocky sometimes." she laughed.
"Sometimes?" she scoffed teasingly. "Yeah, yeah I know. Sometimes it's adorable too." she tugged at her hand. "Gods...I should have gotten coffee this morning. But I was too precoccupied to think about that."
Otep smiled at her as she kissed her forehead gently. "I'll go get you some... I'm not gonna get grounded for skipping *A* class." she laughed a little. "BUT... you have to promise you will stay awake through class.

"I promise...cross my heart and all that crap." she laughed using her finger to make a cross or X mark over heart. "Anything...I'll promise almost anything to have coffee."
Otep nodded. "OK... well... what kind of coffee do you want baby?? Starbucks??" she asked her.
"Is there any other.?" she laughed. "The carmel thing..that I never have learned how to pronounce. Ma..mach..maci-oto..whatever."
Otep laughed. "Machiato." she smiled as she kissed her gently. She squeezed her hands gently and winked at her. "Have fun in first period!" she smiled as she let her go into the class. She then turned to go back to her car.
Jem walked into class. Plopped down into her seat and yawned, streatching a bit too. Then pausing to look at her hand. Watching the light glisten and reflet off her ring. It still seemed so surreal.
Otep was there and back in what seemed to be no time at all. She leaned against the door frame of Jem's class. She watched her for a moment and then let a 'pssst' pass through her teeth. The teacher looked and lifted a brow. "I'm sorry... I need Jem for a minute... I have a book of hers." she said showing the teacher a random one of her books.
Thank heavens. She was back. And not a moment too soon. Jem slid out of her seat. "Sorry.." she said with a shrug to the teacher. Walking over ot the door. "Thank you.." she whispered to OTep. "You're a life saver."
Otep smiled as she just randomly handed Jem a book -- which happened to be the only book in her hand. The only book she ever carried around was her poetry book. "You learning anything good?" she asked her briefly.
Jem's eyes got wide when she saw Otep's poetry book. "Nah, not really." she said with a roll of her eyes. "I can't..take this." she said in a hushed tone. "That's your ...writing."
"Babe... it's an excuse... just... take it." Otep told her. "It's not a big deal."
"All right." she smiled. "Does taht mean I can take a peek or two at you've been writing?"
Otep smiled a little at her and winked. She leaned in subtley as if she were hugging her and kissed her cheek gently. "Of course you can." she told her as she then walked off.
