The ocean spray was far more therapeutic than it had any right being. But then, most things were therapy when a girl decided to skip out on the horrors that were high school and go for a day in the sun. Maybe it was a bit cool to be surfing, but a wetsuit did wonders to keep a body warm and the waves were amazing. It helped, too, that her evening with Fel the night before had been good.
Even if she did have to swear him to secrecy about the wanting/needing a hug thing. No way was she going to give people more ammunition to throw at her. No way was she about to prove that she actually needed/wanted another person around. No way was she about to admit to herself that Felipe had managed to bust past every wall she'd put into place. Ever armored piece she'd lain over herself. All because he'd been in the right place at the right time. He'd seen her weak and she hadn't cared. Not then.
And only a little now.
Popping up on the board, she spread her feet and balanced as the wave carried her towards the shore, the board a vessel upon which the teen felt as though she could actually fly. Like the one guy from the comic books. Kinda chrome looking, if she could remember his name that would have been awesome.
Shifting her weight to turn the board so she could ride the length of the wave, Jess over compensated and tumbled into the water, her board flying out from beneath her feet. The tide's current carried her to shore and deposited her neatly on the sand where Jessica lay staring at the sky, not wondering what had gone wrong, but hoping like hell no one had seen that.
"Just relaxing. That's all." words into the open air before she crawled up and returned to the water for another ride.
