Danny spent the rest of the day thinking about how things had went in the cafeteria and came to the conclusion that Julia might have misunderstood him or been overwhelmed by his formal requesting of permission to court her. If this was so then he owed her an apology for leaving without saying farewell. He ordered a small bouquet of wildflowers and had the florist attach this note.
Dearest Julia
I am sorry that I left without saying farewell. My feelings were overwhelming me and as I had promised not to attack your other suitor, I left before I did something rash. I will not be bothering you anymore. I have taken a new pathway for learning where I won't have to worry about fitting in. I am always available for you however; to champion you, keep you company or just listen when you need an ear. I should have known that I was not good enough to be one of your suitors and I am very sorry that I embarrassed you in public.
