Arriving home, looking slightly detached after what had happened at the park, Alexia wanted to find solace in the one place no one would judge her. The kitchen pantry was stocked to the brim with goodies that Pip and Raisa would dare not touch, which was good for Alexia. Opened the pantry closet and a little smile flitted across her face before she grabbed a big bag of Cheetos and ripped it open.
Grabbing a handful, she stuffed it into her mouth and chewed while her thoughts went straight to how Mew had looked when Phil and Annie were fighting. How could she have been so blind to not see the person she had been constantly staring at was in love with his own best friend? Stupid, Lexi. The back of her eyes stung and a tear fell down her cheek. She just hoped no one was home. Especially not Pip. Alexia knew if she were home, she'd taunt her younger twin to oblivion.
Pip came out of the bathroom wrapped in a bath sheet with another towel wrapped around her hair. She didn't hear Lexi come in as she was in the shower, but as she came out she heard the faint sound of a chip bag crinkle. Always dieting as she was, she was hyper sensitive to the sounds that came with fat, calories and yummy cheesiness. She headed into the kitchen and saw the pantry door ajar. She padded over silently and listened to see who was pillaging the junkfood.
It wasn't long until Alexia was fully crying, snot and all as the bag of cheesy goodness was pushed away in favour of a bag of butterscotch cookies. Her thoughts were playing a loop of what had happened at the park. She simply couldn't just stop thinking about it. All those years of hanging around the boy had taught her nothing at all about him.
Why hadn't she paid more attention to him as a person rather than seeing him with a halo on his head? Granted, he was probably the nicest and sweetest guy she had ever liked but she could have at least seen the obvious attraction the older boy had for his friend. She sobbed quietly as she chewed.
Pip could tell it was Lexi by the sloppy sobbing. Neither she nor Raisa would sound so gross or unfeminine even in private. "Lexi, gaining twenty pounds is not going to make you feel better," she said crisply as she pulled open the door and looked in and shuddered. Really the girl had no dignity at all.
"Hiding in the pantry? Really what are you two? Come out of there. No boy is worth that, especially that redheaded freak you are crushing on. Okay, he likes that Asian fruitcake he hangs out with, you've been saved. Now you can straighten up and find a boy that will lift you up rather than sinking you deeper in the gene pool."
Screwing her face up even more, she turned around and dug the heels of her palms into her ears, mumbling gibberish to drown out Pip's reasoning even though what she said was correct. But it didn't make it any less hurtful. Leave it to her twin sister to be such a bitch when she was in need of some comfort. Not that she ever expected her own twin to lie to make her feel better of course.
When Pip had stopped talking, Alexia turned around with a hard look on her face, snot wiped away on her sleeve. "Could you stop being the popular Pip for just ONE second and try and act like a sister instead of a monster?"
Pip sighed and shut up for a moment. She was only telling her the truth to try to help her. Why was she so misunderstood. "I can't stop being popular, its what I was born to do, but I will listen quietly if you wish it," she said calmly. She didn't mean to be such a bitch to her sister, she meant to help her, but Lexi was hopeless.
"Oh my God you're hopeless." Lexi shook her head and grabbed the opened bags of junk food to stuff it into the fridge. She whirled around and looked at her sister. "Thanks for being my sister. I appreciate all the help you've ever extended to me. All the tauntings and mockings. Everything just thank you very much." Lexi stomped up to her room, thanking God that her parents were sensible enough to have two separate rooms for the twins.
She knew she was being overly dramatic over all this but she couldn't help it. She was upset. Her emotions were going haywire. And her sister being herself was just not helping. Slamming the door, she got on her bed and took calming breaths. "Pull yourself together Lexi. She's your sister. She's just Pip. She's just an incorrigible socialite puppet. You can't let her get to you like this." Of course she wasn't angry at her sister. She was still very much angry with herself for being so careless with what she involved herself with.
Crushing on a senior? Really? What good did that ever do to anyone? And someone like Mew Fischer too! She knew she shouldn't have but she couldn't help herself. And now she was broken just because she never had the guts to tell him how she felt.
Of course, outright rejection didn't help either but at least the boy knew how she felt for him. But now she had no chance. No chance at all. She couldn't tell him now because even if he accepted it, it would be out of pity or he would think she was a rebound. She knew she was harsh on Pip. She had to apologise. Wiping her tears away, she got out of bed and out of her room to look for Pip.
Pip was downstairs still in a towel, buffing her nails with a vengeance. She would never tell Lexi that she had hurt her feelings, but her too straight posture and frenzied nailcare told the whole story. She turned on her stool when Lexi came down the stairs so her back was facing her twin.
The face turn was obviously a sign that Pip was furious with her but Alexia wasn't going to back down from her apology. Pip may not be the most forgiving but they were still sisters. "Lexi mafi." She whispered in their ancient twin speak. It just meant she was sorry.
"I was only trying to help," Pip pouted, but glad her sister apologized. "I didn't mean to taunt you, I just think you can do better. You're my sister after all and you're not completely irredeemable. "You're pretty, with good bone structure, if you would let me help you with makeup and clothes, you would be hot."
"I don't care how I look like." Alexia admitted. She really didn't. She was quite fine with how she appeared. "You shouldn't either...you're prettier without make-up on." It was said softly as a means to not offend her anymore. "I'm...I think I'm gonna go and rest for awhile." If it was possible to look even sadder, Alexia just accomplished it. She turned slowly and walked up the stairs to her room again. This time closing the door quietly.
Pip didn't understand at all, but she still thought it was a shame her sister couldn't understand how important appearances were. They could actually do things together if Lexi just weren't so embarrassing to be around.
Lexi crawled into bed before reaching for her phone to text Anderson. "You up for some bowling?" She slipped her phone and stared up to the ceiling. "I hate my life." She sighed.
