Finlay shoved his hands into his pockets, fuming. How could anyone make Annie cry?! Annie was the sweetest girl in all of Gould, and probably Silver, too. Hell, she was probably the sweetest girl in all of California and then Phil had to go and insult her fathers. He knew Phil, but only because they were in the same grade and the kid wandering around in the top hat was pretty difficult to ignore. Still, he'd always assumed the Asian guy was cooler than that, especially since Annie was friends with him. But Annie would be friends with anyone, it seemed. She needed to be more discerning in who she befriended.
And poor Dee, he couldn't believe he'd dragged her all the way out here only for things to end as they had! What a lousy boyfriend! If he'd had any idea things were going to turn out like this, he would have suggested something else, but no, he'd been so excited about the prospect of cleaning up litter he'd insisted that she go with him.
He turned to the dark-haired girl. "Well that just sucked." He commented, "Let's get something to eat. I don't feel like staying around here." He kicked pebbles across the ground, glaring at his scuffed up Doc Martens.
