After the talk with Tyler and her very long hot shower in the girls locker room all alone, Sloane had plenty of time to rethink her strategy. With her idea of bringing both her only good friends together for dinner the next night, she thought they could brainstorm about what she could do with this Nolan situation. She knew a lot of what Tyler said was true. She was going soft. And it was entirely her own fault.
School ended and Sloane went home with Davey who dropped her off and went somewhere else. She was just preparing dinner for herself when she thought of checking her phone for any messages maybe from Bree or May or even Nolan. She sighed when the only message she got was a stupid knock knock joke from Kiev.
Dialing Bree's number, she cradled the phone in between her shoulder and ear as her she occupied her hands with the sandwich she was going to have for dinner as the dial tone rang in her ear.
Bree was handing out flowers and planting equipment at the park clean up when she felt her phone vibrate. She pulled it out and frowned slightly when she saw it was Sloane. She flipped the phone open and said, "Hi Sloane... aren't you forgetting something?" Bree thought she was miffed about Sloane forgetting, but truly deep down inside she couldn't forget the vision of Tyler and her feeling each other up on the track. This of course had magnified in her mind until it was no longer simple touches, but out and out groping.
Bree's curt voice was something she didn't expect but she chalked it up to her having some difficulties at home. Shaking her head, Sloane took a bite of her sandwich. "Um...were we supposed to meet up today, hon?"
"You said you would help out at the Park Clean Up, everyone is already here I think. The young man in charge was nice enough to assign me to hand out the flowers. He's a real hippy though. Hair down to his butt. I think he might be 15... he looks so young. Anyway... are you coming?" Bree asked trying to tone down her irritation and speak normally.
Noticing how Bree's voice changed, Sloane tried to push the thought of Bree maybe being irritated by her out of her head. It wasn't going to do any good anyway. "Sorry, Bree. Slipped my mind. I'll be right there. Hey...you okay by any means?"
Blushing, Bree shook her head even though Sloane couldn't see it. Realizing that she chuckled at herself. "I'm fine, a little grumpy, I think it's almost that time of the month," she said excusing her tartness. Even if they were having an affair, it wasn't her business. Tyler had only asked her out once and he belonged more to Maggy than to her.
The excuse didn't fly by Sloane and she cursed her perceptiveness. But she didn't call on Bree for it. "Okay, I'm going to go change. I'll be there in a bit. Oh...will you be free tomorrow night?"
Bree sighed. She could go for weeks without plans and then suddenly everyone wanted the same night. "Sorry, I have plans," she said, not really wanting to explain on the phone with people wanting flowers from her.
The reply caught Sloane off guard. "Um...alright." She bit into her sandwich wondering what she had done wrong by her best friend. "Well, it's just that I've invited Tyler over and he's expecting you to be there as well...uh never mind. You're sure you're okay though?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just busy and a little bit off that's all. I'm sorry I can't come, but I already promised tomorrow night to someone else. Tyler will be happier alone with you I'm sure anyway," Bree said, knowing it was true. It was very unlikely he would want more to do with someone who was as terrified of being touched as she was.
Frowning, Sloane dropped the sandwich on a plate. "Okay Bree...this is kind of weird but why are you saying..you know what never mind. I'll see you in a bit." She sighed. "Bye, sweetie." Sloane pressed the red button to end the call, wondering what Bree was talking about Tyler. She decided not to go deeper into this as she changed and took a taxi down to the park.
