Felipe's phone warbled from the depths of the small pile of his personal belongings he'd deposited to one side for the duration of his bout with Kian and the pair of sabres. He lifted his sword to indicate he was stopping momentarily and flicking his face protector back so that it lay flat against the top of his head he rummaged for the phone.
Jessica.
He smiled as he keyed the 'read' button... and the smile vanished as might a downpour of snow across the rooftops of São Paulo in July.
She'd changed her mind. Not only that but she seemed mad about something. Had he somehow screwed up? He didn't think so but...
It chirped again... and the smile returned.
Another change of mind. She still wanted to meet up!
He set the phone back down and reached for his face protector... pausing mid action and glancing instead at his phone. Another text?
He grabbed it.
Jessica... again.
Forget it?
What the heck was going on? He drew in a sharp breath, his heart sinking. He had to have done something wrong... He started to write a reply...
'What is it, Jessica? What's wrong? Have I ups...'
The arrival of yet another text interrupted his message and he quickly read it, confused more than ever by the stream of messages - and changes of mind.
Pretend he hadn't seen the other texts? Like that was even a remote possibility!
He frowned as he turned back to face Kian. They'd finish the bout and then he'd see if he could find out what lay behind this latest flurry of activity...

When Felipe indicated he needed to stop a moment and pulled out his cell, Kian moved back into en garde position. He took the time to look over the other students. There were a couple of younger ones that almost glowed with talent. It was a shame they were practicing epee or he might have learned some moves from them. Kian had a healthy confidence, but he was always willing to applaud talent when he saw it. Envy was useless, but appreciation could teach you things you would never learn on your own.
When Felipe's attention returned, Kian got the impression he needed to leave soon and so he saluted him and began to move through a basic routine. Normally he was rather flamboyant and reckless on his own part, but he made sure to keep to beginner feints and parries so that Felipe would see how it should be done on this level. Felipe was good though and as such learned quickly, soon Kian was pushing himself not to be scored upon as he kept to his original plan. Finally Felipe did a feint that was so smooth, that Kian didn't catch it and received a cut to his ribs. "Point," he called out and bowed. "Excellent work, you are a very quick student." He moved over to shake Felipe's hand as was traditional and then clapped him upon the back.
"I enjoyed our match very much. Sometime we should get coffee after but today I have a date,' Kian said with a grin, thinking of his sweaty weight lifter waiting for him. He couldn't quite imagine Connor in this role, but he was eager to witness it.

Felipe shook Kian's hand in return, covering it with his left hand also. "I had a great time," he answered. "Thank you, Kian. I'm glad we ran into each other. I hope I haven't made you late for your date, though!" he quickly added. "For myself I am going to meet up with a friend. At least," he continued, voice and face dripping with uncertainty, "... I think I am." The number of times Jessica had changed her mind already made his doubt perfectly understandable. "Coffee... Next time. Sounds like a plan," he finished with a smile. They headed for the changing rooms and both boys climbed out of their fencing gear and into their normal attire. "I will look for you at school," Felipe said as they parted ways and with a final check of his phone... just in case Jessica had called things off once more... he wandered out of the building. He huffed a deep breath, contemplating switching off his phone and ensuring any further texts were left unread but he knew that would be stupid. Hopefully he'd find out exactly what was wrong.... and preferrably *before* not knowing robbed him of any last vestiges of sanity he had left! (I think that looks wrapped - and thank you for a fun thread! )
